"Kicking out Bad Habits" by Kartikeya Dasa

How do I overcome my Bad habits? This would most certainly be eligible to be a popular FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) in our lives.

In one's youth, this a the major challenge one has to face. Nowadays due to Handy technology, the youth is addicted to many vices like watching some abominable videos or images, getting into some illicit relation or sensual gratification through artificial means.

Many have realized that this is something which they have to give up as it affects one's life, along with the lives of others living with them, adversely. Controlling oneself becomes difficult by which one can turn out to be insane, trying in vain, and ultimately throw his life out of balance.

The best part is - after realizing that this is a bad habit one tries to give it up but finds it to be very difficult. They eventually give up the thought of overcoming bad habits and continues to live an unbalanced life.

Let's analyze and find out an easy way to do this.

When do we go for some activity which is not good or socially prohibited? Normally when no one is there around us.

It's a simple logic that a teenager will not watch some adult content in front of his parents or anyone for that matter. All such activities are done in seclusion when no one is there around us.

But wait a minute.... what if we get to know that there is a person keeping a continuous watch on us at every moment and on our every activity?... One will surely not dare to do any activity which is not good.

Fortunately or unfortunately there is a person like that who is always with every person in every walk of life.

Mundaka Upanishad talks about this person. It states that there are two birds sitting on a branch of a tree, one bird is eating the fruit and the second bird is just watching passively. This 1st bird is all of us as individuals and the 2nd bird is the Supersoul in our hearts. This supreme soul keeps a watch on every activity that we do without interfering in that particular activity.

So if one realizes this amazing fact of the eternal presence of this beautiful personality with us at every moment of our life then there is no question of indulging ourselves in any bad activity.

But how to realize His presence is the biggest question? The only answer to this question is, in this Age of Kaliyuga we can realize the presence of The Supreme Personality only by chanting his holy names!

This is how one can kick out bad habits by Chanting the holy names of the Lord with complete faith and sincerity.

"The Treasure that can't be Stolen" By Kartikeya Dasa

Everything that we earn through our endeavors - something as small as a cell phone to as big as a Mansion in a posh area - is a treasure for us. A small child would place a great value on his toys whereas for a grownup adult his bank balance, property and relationships would be his hard-earned treasure.

Instances of petty thefts, burglary and corporate money laundering dot the newspapers and television and get reported almost daily around the world. A very common instance of such a theft at public places is pick-pocketing, and from last few years mobile phones are on high demand:P! Due to increased thefts, artificial jewelry decorate the necks of females and beautiful deities in the temples instead of their Gold and diamond counterparts.

It’s so difficult to be assured of safety before leaving for work or a holiday tour, that the hard earned treasure inside our house will remain intact and will not disappear before we come back. Sadly even Safety doors and burglar alarms keep failing to provide us with this much-needed safety assurance.

That feeling of repentance and sorrow coupled with anxiety on the face of a person whose treasure is stolen, be it a mobile phone ,wallet or property, says everything about how dear it was to his heart. What if he manages to catch hold of the thief? Rest assured, the thief would receive a “near-death experience!”

Sometimes we may feel that we are successful in safeguarding our treasure in such a way that it would never be stolen by a person on this planet,but there is something that separates you from everything that you were able to collect here, in this world, in this lifetime,that is the "FAST TICKING TIME-The Greatest Thief". This thief - “The TIME” seems to be a mastermind and to outsmart him, albeit not impossible, is a true challenge in itself

No matter how rich or strong a person is, he is not spared by this thief. But there is something which even this mastermind would fail against! It’s the treasure called LOVE within the treasure chest of our HEARTS.

This love is in a dormant state in our hearts which has become inaccessible to us. If we want to get this treasure which is permanent ,we have to awaken it from its slumber. When a seed is in a dormant state, the favorable conditions around make it fertile. similarly to make this dormant substance fertile we need someone to create that favorable condition around us. But unfortunately, no one around is qualified to do this act as they themselves are searching for such a person! So we need someone who is not from this world but nevertheless is easily accessible to us.

It is for this exact purpose that the transcendental ocean of love comes down to this mortal world from the transcendental realm in the form of Sound.This Sound is none other than the Holy name of the Lord. The Lord manifests Himself in the form of His holy name just for us, so that we get this permanent treasure of LOVE, showering us with that eternal bliss which everyone is hankering for!

So just by chanting these Holy names of the lord we can get this “Treasure which Can’t be Stolen!”

"Selfie with Self!" By Kartikeya Dasa

This century should be renamed from 21st century to the SELFIE century :P...Everyone is haunted by this craze of clicking selfies. No one is a stranger to “THE SELFIE CULTURE”. Guess what The Oxford Dictionary Word of the Year 2013 was? No credits if you managed to guess it right. You can spot school going kids clicking selfies, oldies clicking selfies, rag pickers to big business managers clicking selfies. Selfies share a very sweet spot amongst today's youth and a young guy/girl clicking a selfie can be spotted at the drop of a hat.

Even poor beggars are not immune to this culture. The sight of poor beggars in trains, clicking selfies in their leisure time, would leave you mesmerized.

All heights of this selfie culture were scaled by this boy who happened to click a selfie with the dead body of his Grandmother and post it on his timeline saying "sad demise of my Grandmom!!"

These selfies are nothing but memories which everyone wants to preserve. But at the same time they give us a deeper thought that at every moment of our life we are just trying to impress others by showing off what we have and by pretending to possess things that we do not have!!

I don't like this dress, It's uncomfortable But I will wear it to impress him/her. I don't like to go to bars and pubs but if I go I might be in the limelight in my friend circle. I like to join hands and pray to God at holy places but I won't do that because that might be out of fashion and people may not like it....and the list goes on!!

Ultimately ,such a life to just impress others will leave a person in frustration and nothing more than that.

Let us dig deeper into this reality and try to understand its behavioral aspect. Why do we want to impress others...?? because we feel that will get happiness!

The biggest question is - Can I impress everyone around me?? Everytime?? If not then how will I be happy? So is this the correct source of happiness???

Some day instead of clicking "selfie with others" we should think about clicking a "selfie with self" - trying to understand the needs of our body and soul! Excavating and relishing the deeper meaning of life and source of eternal happiness which is within us and not anywhere outside. This will enable us to live a blissful life without any constraints that we may otherwise subject ourselves to while impressing others. All this is possible only by self-realization - that is - by clicking some "Selfies with self"!

Ending The Endless Journey By Kartikeya Dasa

We all have traveled in trains to our Native places,site seeing places,holy places….. Most of the time we travel with our family members,relatives,friends and colleagues.

The basic scenario in a train journey is some people will board the train at some stations & some will get down at some stations. The passengers sitting inside the train will be doing many activities for passing the time in the journey.Some will be reading newspapers or books,some will be watching movies,some will be peeping out of train to drink the nature's beauty through their eyes,some will be playing different games,some will be busy chatting on phones and with people around on various personal,social and political topics,some will be busy watching videos on laptop or cellphones,some will be constantly eating and sleeping and there will be some special category of people who will be cribbing about when the station will come,why did I board this train,I wish I was at home ,when will I get down and so on!!!!

Our life's journey is like this train journey which starts as soon as we come to this world!!

People like our parents,siblings,friends,relatives,colleagues join us in this journey at different stations but the problem is no one is there with us for the entire journey,people keep joining us and leave us in this journey exactly like people get in and get down a train!!!
But there is one person who is a constant companion in this journey -the "Driver", right from the point we start our journey to the point we reach our destination. He is the one who drives us towards our destination! He is none other than our ETERNAL parent, the cause of all causes! One should have complete faith on him else one may end up changing trains and never reach the final destination.

The journey has started and we have no option but to complete the journey.Now the option is with us to complete the journey with gratitude in the heart for everything that we have or complete the journey cribbing and complaining for the things that we don’t have!!!

This journey becomes blissful when we realize that there is a constant companion with us throughout the journey...everyone might leave me but he will be there with me always in all the happy and sad stations of my life!

This is how we can end this endless journey by expressing heartfelt gratitude for such a wonderful life, realizing the presence of the eternal parent and having complete faith in him that he will take me to the final destination which I alone can never reach.

Every Moving and Non-Moving says "Go Back home!" by Kartikeya Dasa

Story of every person...............

When You are deep asleep, suddenly the morning Alarm rings....The Alarm says Go back home...You will be always active and blissful there!

When you somehow getup and involuntarily go to attend nature's call... "SWEET AROMA" around you says go back home! Nothing is gross like me...Everything is REALLY Aromatic there!

When you get ready and sit for breakfast and you see the dish on the table which you don't like!...That dish says Go back home! Every dish will be your favorite there !

When you step out of house the hot climate making you sweat/Cold climate making you shiver says Go back home! Everything is always blissful there!

When you get into a bus or train which is jam packed... you are really stuck ...Every person in the crowd staring at you says Go back home! You will be a free bird there!

When you get down and start running towards your workplace and you find you are late!..your seniors looking at you give a SWEET ENCOURAGING smile saying Go back Home! Time will be your servant there!

When you come to your desk and think of relaxing on your chair... pending work on the desk says go back home! you can relax only there!

When your boss sees your incomplete work...he starts GLORIFYING you....and you realize that he is saying Go back Home! No boss there!

When you leave your office fully tired and again travel back to your place in the same fully crowed bus or train...every person looks at you saying.. you are still here! what are you waiting for ?? Go back Home! you will be always energetic there!

When you come back to your place and go to bed...someone softly whispers...."Dear why are you taking so much trouble I am waiting for you to take you back to our eternal home of happiness and bliss! I have asked every agent of mine to keep on telling you that you belong to me and I am just waiting for your sincere attention".

This place is a mess! Temporary and full of suffering! I will always wait for you to take you back home because i know you can be very happy only there"

you are so tired ...you just ignore... set the alarm and sleep...that person keeps pumping your heart so that you see the next day!

That person keeps waiting for you day after day... Night after Night.. ..Lifetime after Lifetime...keeps sending his agents to get you back but forgetfulness is your inborn Quality...!!

Great realized souls say that this person is very beautiful and is complete in all respects...he doesn't need anyone but still waits for you!!!!!

Some day you should seriously think of that person and help him in his selfless endeavors(to take you back home).....Because he is the one who REALLY LOVES you!!

Beautiful line which describes the essence of human life.The Ice-cream can be enjoyed when it is in the original form and not when it melts.Similarly a person should enjoy to his fullest extent before his body melts and disappears in the five elements of nature.So people keep saying "live every moment!".
A person can enjoy to his fullest satisfaction when he knows his ultimate goal and purpose of life! This knowledge of ultimate leads to multi-fold increase of bliss in enjoyment.
Great souls say that human life's ultimate goal is to revive and relish the loving relation with our eternal parent.This eternal shelter will make the person so very comfortable that he will find endless bliss in his enjoyment!!!
Recollect who gave you the ice-cream and enjoy it before it melts!!!

"Final Exam Pressure!!!" by Kartikeya Dasa

Exams!! the word itself is so pressurizing.Everyone right from a small kid in KG section to an adult doing his PhD to a person in corporate is tensed about the exams.

Exams need not be the written exams or vivas like the students have ,interviews and presentations like that of corporate people.It can be of various forms.

Everyone of us keep giving exams everyday,every moment in every situation.It might be as simple as feeding a small kid to as complicated as finding ones life partner with matching
bandwidth.The pressure of giving such exams varies depending on how easy or difficult that exam is.

So the form of the exam and pressure due it varies depending on the situation and circumstances. But one thing is common that is preparing for it.

Be it a simple task of feeding a child,mother prepares mentally how to feed the child, or the complicated one of finding the life partner,Extensive preparation by knowing that person's character,likes dislikes etc. or a normal academic exam where the student keeps preparing for months and months together.So everyone prepares for every exam, the time might vary from few seconds to few days to few weeks to few years.But everyone makes it a point to prepare aiming to crack that exam and if not then atleast to give a best attempt.All these preparations are possible by the trigger given by that pressure knowing the importance of that exam.

What pressure is there in the Final Exam???How important is that Exam for a person???Is it easy to crack??How much preparation do we need???By the way what is that final exam???
That Final Exam is the LAST MOMENT OF OUR LIFE...LAST BREATH! Do we know the importance of it? We are preparing for all small to big exams but are we really preparing for this most critical and most important exam!

Answering this question will surely help us to find a way to prepare for this inevitable exam to crack it in the most effective and blissful way!

"Mein Meri Chanting Aur Wo(Mind)" by Kartikeya Dasa

(..Story of a Man who wanted to takeup bhakti seriously and surrender onto the lotus feet of Krsna )

I just started with my professional education and somehow wanted to Chant the holy names of Krsna attentively and takeup devotion seriously but unfortunately even after trying alot I was not able to do it...!

So I decided to discuss with my lover (Mind) and get some solution for this.

I was asking my Mind...

Me:O my dear Mind,When will I be able chant attentively and takeup bhakti seriously ?

Mind:Very soon you will start chanting with full attention but for that u have to become stable.

Me:Stable??When will I become stable?

Mind: Very soon you will become stable in your life ...For time being let your exams get over... ignore chanting and devotion.... just study!!

Me:Ok as u say.

After exams....

Me:Now exams are done but still I am not able to Chant properly...when will I become stable and chant properly??

Mind:I think after you complete this Semester you will become stable and then you can chant properly.But for time being just concentrate on your semester...chanting and other devotional activities can be done latter.

Me: Ok dear ! as u say.

After the semester...

Me:O mind..Semester is done....but I am not able to Chant properly...whats happening?? I did everything that you said..Please tell me When will I become stable to chant attentively?

Mind:I feel after your Graduation you will surely become stable...so what I suggest you is just complete your education properly...latter you will be able to Chant with rapt attention...so for time being ignore Chanting and just concentrate on your Education.

Me:Ok done.. i will do watever you say.

After Graduating...

Me:I am done with my Graduation but I am still not able to Chant properly or takeup devotion seriously...I am just dependent on you...Please tell me what should I do?

Mind:I think first you should get a good job then you will be settled in your life and finally you will be able to Chant attentively...Now just search for a Job and think about how to earn...ignore chanting and devotion ..that can be done latter.

Me:Ok sure...You are my true lover...you always help me.

Got a Job...very hectic schedule... no time for anything else...engaged only in Corporate work.

Me:O dear mind! now I have got a job, I am earning but I am still not stable to chant...i have no time! please help...

Mind:Dear..,Dont worry..u need someone in your life who can help you.Find a lifepartner and then you will become absolutely stable...finally you can chant and do devotion properly...but now ignore all this devotional stuff and just find a Lifepartner..!

Me:Thanks a lot dear...you always help me.

Got Married...after few years I was blessed with a child.

Me:I have got many responsibilies...I am still not stable...I am not able to chant attentively and takeup devotion seriously...O mind please help..please help...!!

Mind:Dont worry dear very soon you will become stable....Just concentrate more on your child's future and get him married and settled...after that you will have no work then you can just chant and takeup devotion seriously....now ignore all devotional stuff...all that can be done latter.

Me:That sounds really good.I will do as u say.

My Son completed his education..got married..They were blessed with children and I grew Old...

Me:O mind...I am not stable even now!!!! I have become physically very weak..what should I do??...I am not able to takeup devotion because of my health problems.
please help!!!!

Mind:Dont worry dear very soon you will become stable..for time being just focus on your health and enjoy with your Grandson and daughter.... ignore all devotional stuff..you have lots of time left for all that.

I grew very old and finally was about leave my body..

Me:O Mind...What happend I wasnt settled or stable at anypoint of time...I wasnt able to chant and engage myself in the devotional service to Krsna even for a moment...what happend ...please tell me...where did I go wrong??...I did everything that you suggested me!

Mind:Dont worry dear..in sometime you will become very very stable......

After saying this Mind disappeared.. ditching me...!!

I was about to take my last breath...then I realised that Mind was just fooling me throughout my life...It kept on telling me that I will be stable very soon...Now I know that the stable point the mind was talking about was DEATH!

Friends I couldn't takeup Chanting and devotion Seriously waiting for becoming stable and settled but please trust me that one can never become stable in life...because life is full of uncertainties...!!!

The correct time to takeup devotion is now in whatever phase of life you are in...don't ever listen to this Mind he will always give you wrong suggestions...because he doesnot tolerate to see you loving Krsna ( who is the ultimate goal of life) more than him.

Just Takeup Bhakti seriously and Go back to Krsna in this very lifetime.

"Repeating the Same Mistake" by Kartikeya Dasa

Why are we not able to chant quality rounds??
Why are we not getting taste in devotion??

Because we are repeating the same mistake which we did in the spiritual world!

When we were in the spiritual world we wanted to enjoy,We kept ourselves at the 1st priority and the lord at the last in our priority list...because of this we were kicked out from there and put in this jail so that our consciousness is purified.

If we analyse properly then we are repeating the same mistake even here...In devotion we are trying to serve Krsna in various ways primarily by Chanting,kirtan,deity worship,reading and hearing about him...Out of which Chanting is most important..it accounts for 99% of our spiritual advancement.

In the middle of chanting one of the many things we do is...
-attend a phone call keeping our beads aside
-checking watsapp msgs
-attending the person who knocks the door
-driving
-talking to people around etc etc

by doing all this subconsciously we want to accommodate Krsna in OUR Schedule,but the question is why will krsna want to adjust in our schedule...is he in need of us or our we in need of him???

When we are chanting we are actually fixing an appointment with Krsna and the meeting proceeds as we keep chanting...In the middle of this important meeting with most important personality if we attend a phone call or check message or do any activity its like telling Krsna wait I have got something more important than you.I will get back to you in sometime!!!!! so we give him LAST PRIORITY.How stupid of us??..as if we don't need him and he is in a great need of us!!

Even while fixing this appointment (chanting) with him we select a time according to our convenience afternoon,evening or late night etc after doing all our work..most of the time this work is for our sense gratification...our enjoyment!!so again here we give him LAST PRIORITY!

When some important meeting or exam or project etc comes we cancel the appointment(chanting) with him...saying sorry this is more important we can meet tomorrow!! So again here we give him the LAST PRIORITY!

This is a big list which has Krsna at the LAST PRIORITY!!

So how can we expect to get taste in devotion when Krsna is at the last priority...This is just repeating the same mistake again and again...n finally we remain in this world forever!!!!

so how can we give him the 1st priority??

Fix the appointment early in the morning...dedicated 2 hours(Not in installments)...we shldnt do any work at this time...all material activities should pause for 2 hours...Early morning ensures that we start our day with our Lord and dedicated 2 hours proves that how important the meeting is!!!

No one should be entertained in between this important meeting...because no one in this world is more important than Krsna!!!!
No meeting...No Exam...No project can be more important than Krsna..So no chance of cancelling the meeting!!

In this way at every place if we prioritize Krsna first..then there is some hope of going back else no chance!!! else we will be just repeating the same mistake by which we are here!!

"Lets date with the most beautiful one" by Kartikeya Dasa

(Dating is a gross term which means spending quality time with loved ones)

Dating is a very common term used nowadays .You might have heard people saying with great surprise "You know he/she got to date with that beautiful/handsome personality,how fortunate he/she is".
Just imagine we win a lucky draw and we get to date with our most favourite celebrity or sports personality for full TWO HOURS.When we will be sitting with that person,we will forget everything and just see that person and talk with that person to our complete satisfaction without wasting a single moment.Probably we might curse the creator to create us with the eyelids which blink and block our way to see the person,to give us urges of hunger and thirst and so on.That will be our intense mood when we will be sitting with our favourite mere mortal personality.
Devotees our very fortunate they win such lucky draws everyday and get to date with the most eternally beautiful personality -Krsna.Krsna means all attractive . Scriptures reveal the fact that He's the most beautiful one,No match to him.Scriptures also reveal that Krsna and his holy name are non different. But wait a minute there's some problem!!! So it means that Krsna's name is Krsna himself,which means when we chant japa we are actually spending time with him!!!! then why don't we experience the importance of associating with such a wonderful personality?Why do we get distracted when we are chanting japa?Why are we not tasting the sweetness in such interaction?
Problem is poor self introspection (where are we going wrong) and not understanding the position of the personality we are interacting with(lack of sambandha gyan)!

If we really want to "DATE"(revive our eternal loving relation with lord) with the most beautiful one we have to work on above problems!

Keep attentively Dating(chanting) and be happy!
