Daily number of rounds of Hare Krishna mahamantra.
It varies greatly. Chanted 16 rounds faithfully for 6 years, however due to arthritis can no longer hold beads. Since 1999 I chant without beads. I chant while cooking, etc., frequently chant several hours a day, on and off all day, and sometimes after sleep wake up chanting.
When, where and how did you come into contact with the Hare Krishna Movement?
In 1993(?), saw flyer for Swami Tripurari's Temple at Govinda's Vegetarian Buffet in Eugene, OR I knew of the house he purchased before he learned of it from Real Estate lady. While driving past old house I saw him and followers in the process of moving into house and re-modeling it, changing run-down house into beautiful Temple. Telephoned phone number on flyer to inquire who they were? and ask questions pertaining to information that was on the flyer. Prior to that did not know about ISKON or Krsna, however - (coincidence?) 3 days prior to the flyer had received The Bhagavad Gita from my Mom for a birthday gift. She saw a 'new' copy of it at Goodwill, and immediately knew I would like to have it!

None. Previously was very active at Swami Tripurari's GVS Temple in Eugene, OR. Have never attended any other temple. I have only been in contact with Swami Tripurari, my Guru Maharaja, via mail or e-mail since I became physically ill and moved from Eugene, OR to California in 1998. I have never since moving to CA had opportunity of association with any ISKON devotees. Being physically ill I am not able to travel and do not associate with the "neighbors" as they are not interested in Radha-Krsna. I am doing the best I can "on my own".

I grew up in a very demonic like family. As a child I was taught religion is like a fairy tale. I searched for myself by visiting numerous churches and religious groups. I did not feel any were right for me. After some time I felt myself being pulled into some New Age "bad stuff" and I managed to free myself of it completely. After this I prayed with all my heart, from the very inner core of my being, addressing my prayers to: Whomever or Whatever created me, I want to know who was my creator and why was I created. What is the purpose of life? ..." I prayed thus with all my heart, putting ultimatums and threats with my prayers. I continued my wanting to know "who - what created me" for many years. Then several things happened almost simultaneously. I went to Eugene OR to assist my mother. We were driving on River Road in Eugene OR, saw real estate lady escort a "holy man" and associates to door of old house that was for sale. Then a couple weeks later, for my birthday my Mother gave me the Bhagavad Gita As It Is, by Prabhupada. Then 3 days after that my Mother who looks at flyers, notices, etc saw the flyer at Govinda's (she did not eat there, she went places just to look at all bulletin boards) and took flyer with her to show it to me. I telephoned the number on the flyer and it was the same group we had seen when we drove past the old abandoned house and saw the real estate lady escorting the "holy man" and associates to door of house. It turned out that the "holy man" was Swami Tripurari, and associates were followers of his and Ratna, Agni's wife from Govinda's Restaurant. This was the beginning of my prayers being answered, and I learned from Tripurari that I was created by Krsna for His Pleasure, thus my old prayers were being answered. I was determined to get to know Krsna better, and to Love Him with all my heart.
What are your expectations from this community?
Become stronger in my Radha-Krsna consciousness. Have absolute unconditional pure love of, as well as faith and trust in Krsna in all aspects of my life, and be with like minded people in my next life. Since joining ISKCON REFRESH my interest in chanting has been stimulated, and I chant a lot more than previously. I chant 3 or 4 hours continuously, watch Krsna Conscious DVD, chant more, watch another DVD, etc. My life is of a better quality now.
