Types of Characters (Article)

Vedas describe 4 types of characters.

The 1st type of character is a learned person or people who are inclined to study and to learn. They yearn to know more and desire to give knowledge to other people. From their childhood they yearn for the truth, desire to learn something, hear attentively what people talk to them. They feel discomfort when they do not understand some points which their parents are telling to them. Meaning – the main thing for such kids is that they want to know the meaning of everything. They start to worry if they do not understand something and feel dissatisfaction. The main quality of these people is sincerity. It is impossible to buy such like a person. If the kid is not sincere and easily gives up the path of sincerity then he or she is in different category.

2nd type of people are those who are inclined towards management, ruler ship, inclination to protect someone, or else establishing laws of justice. No matter what they try to make life fair, correct. The most important quality is inclination towards fair and compassion. If the person is trying for fair life and calling other to live accordingly and if he himself is trying to become so then he belongs to a second type of people. There is a visible desire for giving protection to weak ones in these people. Mostly such like people become politicians, presidents, directors. Plus such people have strong sense of responsibility and duty. If such kids are forced to become a learned scholar then they will have problems.

The 3rd type of people are inclined towards trade and farming. Their main two qualities are their generosity and desire to become wealthy. Also they are practical. They have inclination to be economical, do things practically, and do business. In their childhood they like to exchange something for some other thing, to collect something, also desire to be in the pick meaning for gaining some income.

The 4th type of people are those who like tinkering and love to do some specific practical work. They want to do everything with their hands. Mostly they feel satisfaction while being engaged with something they love to do, not being interested in business, management or learning something. Their prior quality is hard work.

There is also non Vedic type of people. This happens when parents do not pay attention to the natural qualities of a child and try to force him to do other things contradictory to their nature or else they did not help the child to progress in that field to which he was inclined according to his or her karma. As a result positive qualities of a person were destroyed and person feels that does not know what to do in life. They do not realize their inclinations and do not know the goal of their lives. This 5th type of people are considered as undone ones – but still they have to try to find themselves in life. Such people suffer too much.

Because of that to understand the quality and inclination of a child is the foremost duty of parents. Their duty is not that to make their kids a great mathematics or to give to the most prestigious college but understand their natural inclinations and help to cultivate those inclinations. In this we learned that there are 4 types of characters and the fifth one is undone.
