The Bhagavad-gītā and the great ācāryas, or spiritual masters, have prescribed certain foods for human beings, and one who eats these foods eats in the mode of goodness. These foods include grains, fruits, vegetables, milk products, and sugar—and nothing more. A devotee does not eat extravagantly; he simply eats what he offers to the Supreme Lord, Kṛṣṇa. He is interested in kṛṣṇa-prasādam (food offered to the Lord) and not in satisfying his tongue. Therefore he does not desire anything extraordinary to eat.
Similarly, a devotee does not wish to accumulate a large bank balance: he simply earns as much as he requires. This is called yāvad-artha or yuktāhāra. In the material world everyone is very active in earning more and more money and in increasing eating and sleeping and gratifying the senses; such is the mission of most people's lives. But these activities should be absent from the life of a devotee.
(NARADA BHAKTI SUTRA).
We cannot offer the Lord that which He has not ordered. The Personality of Godhead, Śrī Kṛṣṇa, cannot be offered anything beyond the range of good foodstuffs like rice, dal, wheat, vegetables, milk and milk preparations, and sugar. At Jagannātha Purī the Lord is offered such foodstuffs, and in all scriptures the very same foodstuffs are mentioned everywhere.
The Lord is never hungry, nor does He require any food to fill His empty stomach. He is complete in Himself. Yet He always mercifully eats the foods offered by His devotees in sincere affection. The cowherd boys brought simple foodstuffs from home, and the Lord, who is constantly served by hundreds and thousands of goddesses of fortune, is always glad to accept such simple foodstuffs from His devotee friends.
(LIGHT OF THE BHAGAVATA).
The holy name of Lord Kṛṣṇa, His quality, pastimes and so forth are all of the nature of absolute truth, beauty and bliss. Naturally they are very sweet, like sugar candy, which appeals to everyone. Nescience, however, is compared to the disease called jaundice, which is caused by bilious secretions. Attacked by jaundice, the tongue of a diseased person cannot palatably relish sugar candy. Rather, a person with jaundice considers something sweet to taste very bitter. Avidyā (ignorance) similarly perverts the ability to relish the transcendentally palatable name, quality, form and pastimes of Kṛṣṇa. Despite this disease, if one with great care and attention takes to Kṛṣṇa consciousness, chanting the holy name and hearing Kṛṣṇa's transcendental pastimes, his ignorance will be destroyed and his tongue enabled to taste the sweetness of the transcendental nature of Kṛṣṇa and His paraphernalia. Such a recovery of spiritual health is possible only by the regular cultivation of Kṛṣṇa consciousness.

Very interesting and useful information...thanks
I always remember how I was taught that Krishna accepts our offering if He sees love and devotion there. And He purifies the food even He doesn't eat it. So then we get to take the remnants of His enjoyment. If He sees some love and devotion in the offering, then He salivates. We all do this, and Krishna is no different. Then when the food mixes with His saliva, the food becomes non-different than Krishna, and when we eat the remnants of His enjoyment, then we become purified and are able to make advancement on the bonafide spiritual path. I am so happy to be able to find joyful, clean and wholesome foods in the market to purchase and to bring home for offering to Krishna. I know He doesn't accept meat or fish or eggs, so I leave these things on the shelf at the market and feel very happy not to have to purchase products of animal slaughter. Sometimes we have produce from the garden and fruits from the trees so we are blessed with nice things for offering. And our family cow is giving gallons of fresh, wholesome milk daily for Krishna's enjoyment. We think that being Krishna's servants, and servants of His servants, that we are blessed with the best life we can possible have and that complete satisfaction is already ours.
