I come from a south Indian brahamin family and even before I came to KC we had dieties of Laddu Gopal, Lakshmi Narayana and other dummy gods. These deities are made of Silver or Panchaloha (alloy of 5 metals). I bathe the deities everyday with water and hence the deity turns black in color.
I used to use Silver dip from Modi care to polish the deities. But recently i read in Deity worship ministry website that we should not use any chemicals. I am confused as what to use to clean the deities.

The sacred ash called vibhuthi is a good silver polisher which is organic and not made of harmful chemical. We can first clean with tamarind and salt nicely and the regular dish washing soap and dry it with a cloth and rub it nicely with vibhuthi.
Tamarind and salt or nimbu and salt are good for copper brass items.
