A Transcendental Visit by Giriraj Swami

Hridayananda das Goswami stayed with me in Carpinteria over the weekend, and we had many enlivening and enlightening conversations. I could really appreciate Srila Prabhupada’s statement that Maharaja has a “transcendental brain.” He is intent on serving Srila Prabhupada’s mission, especially in America, and our common interest is to please Srila Prabhupada and become Krishna conscious by his divine grace.

I pray for the association of Srila Prabhupada’s sincere, committed, and affectionate fol

The following is the preface to the author’s new book Hiding in Unnatural Happiness, soon to be released.

Some people seem hard-wired for material success. Apparently on an endless winning streak, often since birth, their life a continual bubble-bath of comfort, convenience, and gratification, they glory in wealth and acclaim.

Their polar opposites, at the dark end of the street, are the legions of the hard up and badly off. Born to lose, many would say, pinned under massive

Narsinh Mehta was a great and dear-most devotee of Lord Sri Krishna. In his early life he lost his parents and stayed at his elder brother’s place. However, his sister-in-law did not welcome him very well. She was ill-tempered, always taunting and insulting Narsinh for his worship (Bhakti). One day, when Narsinh Mehta had enough of these taunts and insults, he left the house and went to a nearby forest in search of some peace, where he fasted and meditated for 7 days by a secluded Siva-linga

When Hadai dropped me off at the Vancouver Airport, he joined me in the queue to get my boarding passes.  I expressed my gratitude and a point of realization. "In life, we are always standing in some queue for a ticket, a coffee death."  It seemed an impetus for reflection.

We kept talking, and one issue raised was how he had to deal with cockroaches in former residences.  "Our building also had bed bugs," he said, unceremoniously.

One more epiphany surfaced.  "There will always be a

The concept of evolution of species, generally attributed to Charles Darwin, actually had its origin thousands of years ago in ancient India, and formed the basis of the illuminating philosophy of the Vedas. Since Darwin lived at a time when the profundity of the Indian wisdom already made an indelible impression on the minds of the western savants, it is hard to imagine how Darwin could possibly have escaped the compelling influence of the Indian

Do you have strong friendships? By this I mean people close to your heart, who are with you through good and bad times, people with whom your life is tightly bound. Will these relationships endure at your deathbed and beyond? There is only one person who is tightly bound to us beyond the barrier of death. He has always been with us, even before this life. He is a friend who knows the contents of our heart… and yet we have somehow managed to forget Him. We have inconceivably lost our most import

What is Gratitude? By Radhanath Swami

2515249915?profile=original

Gratitude is a divine virtue that is so important that other divine virtues could not exist without it. Spirituality grows like seeds within our heart. The goodness of our lifestyle protects that seed. Our spiritual practice of chanting God’s names, reading scriptures, doing seva for God and others waters that seed. But gratitude is what makes the ground fertile so that all these other virtues will actually have its maximum effect. A fertile soil allows the seed to have deep roots and grow ve

BURNING THE SEED OF KARMA

Dagdhabīja nyāyaḥ (burned seed)

The seed, otherwise suitable for growth, when burned, will never more germinate in any condition.

Vedic literature describe our material existence in many ways comparing it to ordinary seed of a plant (bīja). It is because there are many similes, which helps us to understand the mechanisms of karma. The desires, which are separate from Kṛṣṇa's desires, are seeds, which we sow in our garden of worldly course. Each seed grows into a plant with different kind of frui

We began our fourth Indraprastha ISKCON Noida to Vrindavan padayatra on September 29, but the preparations had been started long before. We planned for an ox cart sankirtan rath and an advance party to about fifteen villages and this year included arrangements for the ladies, whereas for the past three years it had been for prabhujis only. The number of participants on this year’s walk was set at thirty devotees.

The inauguration ceremony took place at 2pm after the Sunday love feast. About 20

The Hare Krishna Training center celebrated its 9th annual graduation ceremony on 20th November in Nairobi, Kenya.

About the center:

The quiet stillness of the morning at the Hare Krishna Training center is broken with the low murmur of the center student chanting the Hare Krishna Maha-mantra. In the distance, the ringing of a small bell can be heard as morning offering of breakfast is done. This is the meditative atmosphere that is always felt at the HKTC. Every morning, b

Prayers required for the imminent departure of Cyavana Swami, a pioneer disciple of Srila Prabhupada, presently in coma.

Cyavana Swami was born in Cincinnati Ohio in 1945.

At the age of eighteen, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and was stationed aboard a Cutter based at Boston Harbor. That’s where he first encountered his Spiritual Master A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami when he arrived in America in 1965 aboard the Indian steamship freighter Jaladuta.
