Prabhupada: ...nanyat. Na anyat. So this is going on. And where is surrender? If you don't believe in Krsna, don't surrender to Krsna, then what is the meaning of this surrender? This is going on. Our, one swamiji, is there in Bombay, Cinmayananda. He is a big speaker in Bhagavad-gita, and he has constructed temple-Siva-linga, the genital of Lord Siva. Just see.Mahamsa: He said he has translated... His interpretation of Krsna is that this "Krsna means black. Black is ignorance. So Krsna is ignor

Without being self-controlled, without being disciplined and without being fully obedient, no one can become successful in following the instructions of the spiritual master, and without doing so, no one is able to go back to Godhead.

Krsna is very beautiful

Bearded Allen Ginsberg -- popular American "beat" poet and LSD promoter of '60s fame -- was in Sydney for poetry recitals. He arrived at the temple mid-afternoon to see Srila Prabhupada. The devotees explained to him that Prabhupada was resting at his house. He quickly left, promising to return later. Ginsberg, however, never returned.

The blue Kombi van was regularly being used to pick up Srila Prabhupada from his Renny Street house and drive him to the temple for the even

Importance of a Cow

Even after knowing Krishna’s life, we overlook the importance Krishna gave to the cows. There were two instances where Krishna has tried to convince us of how one can win Krishna by serving a cow.

Mata Yashoda took Krishna to cow and prayed cow for Krishna’s well-being, when she saw Krishna being attacked by the demon Putana. Krishna’s parents knew that protecting cow alone can bring health, wealth and prosperity. Mata Yashoda told us that cow protects us from ill-will and negative energies.

It is too slippery

Prabhupada's instructions to Upendra were often in response to his mistakes. Although Upendra knew that Prabhupada preferred lightly-seasoned prasadam, sometimes he would use too much ghee or spices. One time in San Francisco, Prabhupada had confided in his secretary: "That Upendra is using too much ghee. I cannot taste the prasadam before it slips down my throat. It is too slippery." Although devotees would sometimes cook him special items, Srila Prabhupada was not interested

COWS IN VEDIC TRADITION

COWS IN VEDIC TRADITION

> Acording to my understanding Hindus worship cows because they were our livelihood.

If this were the case, then we would have other's worshipping the horse, others worshipping the goat, others worshipping their jewellery, etc., according to their livelihood. The worship of the cow goes much deeper than the economic development we receive from her. Do the scriptures tell us to worship our mother, father and guru simply because they feed us? Or is there a

ISKCON’s Governing Body Commission has accepted a proposal from Vishoka Dasa of New Vrindaban, West Virginia, and Krishna-Mangala Dasa of Russia that they establish a memorial for Jayananda Prabhu—considered a modern-day saint by members of ISKCON—although he passed away as far back as 1977.

“The GBC Body hereby thanks Vishoka Das and Krishna Mangala Das for their kind endeavors in this regard and offers its blessing for the successful completion of the project,” stated Resolution 303 in the offi

A Tribute to Jayananda Prabhu

A Tribute to Jayananda Prabhu
.by Gurudas

Swamiji told me that when you see a Vaishnava you automatically think of Krishna. Jayananda was steady in his devotion. Jayananda was one of the most unselfish people I have ever met. Jayananda Prabhu was most known for his tireless work every year to make the Jagannath Festival a success, but his passion for all types of service was evident from the first day I met him in San Francisco. He motivated many of us by his stalwart example, doing as much as he

Can We Worship Lord Ganesa?

In the Nectar of Devotion, Part 1 Chapter 8, {Offenses to be avoided} Srila Prabhupada writes and I qoute"One should begin the worship of Demigod Ganapati, who drives away all impediments in execution of devotional service. In the Brahma samhita, it is stated that Ganapati worships the lotus feet of Lord Nrsimhadeva, and in that way he has become auspicious for the devotees in clearing out all impediments. Therefore all devotees should worship Ganapati". Lord Sri Krishna has of course discouraged

Thought Of The Day

Krishna has given some the opportunity to serve Him by nice writing, some by good business ability, some by nice cooking, and so on, but these various services are all accepted equally by Krishna. On the transcendental plane, one service is as good as another. There is no question of higher or lower. We are very tiny, and so we cannot really do very much. Simply we can engage our time and energy, and that is all Krishna sees. He sees this boy or girl is spending his time in My Service, and He is

I found this prayer most apt for a fallen soul like me, it is pure realization of our miseries and Krshna's mercy.

Hare Krshna

My dear Lord, everyone within this material world is conditioned by Your illusory energy. Under the impression of false identification and false possession, everyone is transmigrating from one body to another in the path of fruitive activities and their reactions. My dear Lord, I am also no exception to these conditioned souls. I am falsely thinking myself happy in poss

By its very nature material existence is very complex and problematic. We are constantly tormented by so many difficulties such as birth, death, old age and disease. Therefore we should simplify our lives as much as possible by keeping our material arrangements to the bare minimum so that we can free up as much energy as possible to be absorbed in hearing, chanting, and remembering the wondrous Lord Sri Krishna on a regular daily basis.
