Hare Krishna Prabhujis and Mathajis,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva.

This mail is in continuation of the series -"How to Attain Transcendental Love for Krishna ?", based on Bhagavad Gita class given by our beloved spiritual master HDG Mahavishnu Goswami Maharaj on verse 4.10, in Penang, West Malaysia, on 16th March 1992.

In previous mail we saw the conditions which Lord has given us in the first two lines of verse 4.10 of Bhagavad Gita. Now let us hear more from Gurudev on this verse. Maharaj says, "Whatever is good for us, He will give. Whatever He arranges is always good for us. We might not want it. At the first sight, we might be angry with Him as to how He can trouble us like this. But He does it for our good. There is beautiful story about Krishna krupa - mercy of Krishna. There was a king. He was doing a good job. He built house for his citizens and many other good things to the public. He had a prime-minister and everytime when the king did some good thing, the king will come and boast to prime-minister -"I have done this. I have done that..etc". The prime minister will reply -"That is Krishna krupa - mercy of the Lord." So everytime the king will go and tell the prime minister, he will hear the same answer. The king was tired of his reply and he angrily said, "Why are you saying Krishna krupa everytime ? What did your Krishna do ? I am doing everything and you are saying Krishna krupa ? I don't want this reply anymore. Remember - I am doing everything". The prime minister smiled and replied -"This is also Krishna Krupa". (laughter). He will always repeat this thing. One day what happened, by an accident the king's last finger was cut. So only 9 fingers were left and it was very painful and bleeding. The king was shouting and screaming. The prime-minister, when he heard that the king was injured, he went to see him. The king said, "See ..See how my finger is cut and how painful it is". The minister replied - "Krishna Krupa". King was really upset. King said - "Is it your Krishna - taking my finger out ? I am bleeding so badly and is this your Krishna's mercy ? I feel like beating you." (laughter). So he called the scoldiers and said -"Take this rascal from my sight and just put him in prison. I don't want to see his face again". The king was so very tired of the minister's reply. He said, "If Krishna is there how can He give misery in my life ?". Then what happened the prime-minister was put in the prison.

The king was fond of hunting. So one day what happened the king went to the forest and he tried to search out some animal. He got separated from the group and somehow lost the way and it became very late. It was late evening and he was really afraid. There were some aborigines (tribal people in the forest), who wanted to do some sacrifice to their Goddess. They were looking for a good man to cut. (laughter). So they saw our king. Nice man for sacrifice. So they stopped him and asked "who are you ?" He replied - "I am the king". The tribal people replied - "We don't care. Come on. We want to sacrifice you to our Goddess." So they took him away and dressed him nicely for the sacrifice. The king was shivering now and he thought - "I will never see my kingdom again." So everything was ready and he was brought in front of the Goddess to be just sacrificed. The leader of the group asked them to check the king and ensure if he is alright for the sacrifice. Because if something is missing in him, then the Goddess will not be satisfied. They tried to inspect and one finger was missing. (laughter). The tribal leader said - "This guy has only 9 fingers. No good. Just get out" (laughter). So king remembered the prime-minister. "When my finger was cut, the prime-minister said that it was Krishna krupa. Its really correct. Because if I had 10 fingers now, I would have been finished". (laughter) So some how he went running to his palace and called the soldiers and said - "You please bring the prime-minister out of the prison." The king said - "You are very correct sir. If I had 10 fingers, then I would have been finished. I would have been in hell or Goloka Vrindavan or anywhere else." (laughter). But I don't understand one thing, when I sent you to the prison, even then you said it was Krishna krupa. My finger was cut and that is Krishna krupa. Thats quite alright. But I put you in trouble and still how that could be Krishna krupa. The minister replied - "Why you don't understand ? If I had been out, then I would have accompanied you to the forest and the tribal people would have left you and caught me because I had no injury." (laughter).

So this is how whatever happens is "man-mayaa maam upaashritaah". We are taking shelter of Him, all powerful Lord. Whatever He does is alright. Today He has given nice palace to stay. Tomorrow we may have to stay under a tree. Doesn't matter. Today we have. Tomorrow we may not have. We may get our food. We may not get our prasadam or we may have some difficulty. Some quarrels are going on. Kaliyuga is always there. But we have to ignore those things and completely, full heartedly take shelter of the Lord. Lord puts very nicely you know - "being fully situated in Me" - "upaashritaah" . No other shelter. Other shelters will crack down. His shelter is very powerful. So please - this is His second condition and if you understand these two conditions, then its very easy to remember those 5 words - "veeta raaga bhaya krodha" - We have to be without raaga, bhaya and krodh, (i.e - attachment, fear and anger) and man mayaa maam upaashritaah - we have to fully be situated in Him, taking shelter of Krishna. These are the two conditions. Now please repeat these two lines." (Gurudev lovingly appreciates (says - good, Very good, Jai) and makes every devotee in the house to recite the two lines. If someone makes mistakes, he says - "Why are you in a hurry ? Please recite nicely. please repeat again and again and I will again come to you to check". "Mathaji - this time I will not help. You should recite nicely. Else kitchen will be closed. No prasadam for one month" - laughs loudly).

Krishna willing we shall continue to hear more nectar from Gurudev in the forthcoming mails.

Thank you very much.

Yours in service of Srila Prabhupada and Srila Gurudeva,
Sudarshana devi dasi.
