Ahead of inclement weather, hundreds of Krishna devotees and well-wishers gathered at the ISKCON of DC campus for the transfer of their Deities to the new temple just steps away. These joyful processions were part of the Temple Opening Festival going on this weekend, inaugurating a new home and an exciting future for one of ISKCON’s first communities.

Among the Deities that will make the new temple Their home is Madana-Mohana, the first Krishna Deity in ISKCON which was acquired by ISKCON devotees in 1967 from an Indian shopkeeper in New York City. Srila Prabhupada gave Him the name Madana-Mohana, and after several years in New York, Prabhupada desired that He preside over the devotees in Washington DC. Yamuna Devi Dasi acquired a Radharani deity in Vrindavan, and Sri Sri Radha Madan Mohan were installed together in the nation’s capital in 1973. In July 1976, during the country’s bicentennial year and ISKCON’s 10th anniversary, Srila Prabhupada visited the current temple and 12-acre plot of beautiful forested land in Potomac, Maryland.

Now, 50 years after that original installation, the Deities have a new, glorious home that stands like a beacon on the hill in one of North America’s most iconic cities.

Festivities continue on Saturday and Sunday, culminating with the Gaura Purnima Festival, detailed in the graphic below. To follow the celebrations live online, visit the ISKCON of DC Facebook page, and visit their website for more information about their ongoing service.
On March 14, 2024, the ISKCON Hammanskraal temple, located in a township in northern Pretoria, South Africa’s capital city, experienced a fire incident that caused significant damage to its front entrance.

In an interview with Co-Temple President Jai Nitai Das, ISKCON News learned that the conflagration was caused by an uncontrolled field fire that spread from neighboring grounds, particularly from a nearby church property.

According to Jai Nitai, the overgrown and unkempt grass on the church’s premises has led to frustration among locals. One individual, seemingly from the nearby informal settlement, took matters into their own hands and set fire to the grass. Unfortunately, the fire spread towards the ISKCON Hammanskraal temple, igniting the thatched entrance structure. This regrettable event serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining fire safety measures and communal cooperation in safeguarding shared spaces.

Read more: https://iskconnews.org/iskcon-hammanskraal-temple-suffers-fire-damage/

150th Vyasa-puja Celebration of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati & TOVP Nrsimha Wing Openinghttps://iskcondesiretree.com/profiles/blogs/150th-vyasa-puja-celebration-of-srila-bhaktisiddhanta-saraswati-t2024-02-26T13:25:10.000Z2024-02-26T13:25:10.000ZISKCON Desire Treehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/members/iskcon_desire_tree

This month, on February 29, all Gaudiya Vaishnavas worldwide will celebrate the most auspicious 150th Appearance Anniversary of the Founder-Acharya of the Gaudiya Math, and spiritual master of ISKCON Founder-Acharya, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada: His Divine Grace Ashtotarashata Sri Srimad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Prabhupada.

We cannot imagine our eternal good fortune for having come in touch with the movement created by Srila Saraswati Thakur over one century ago, for without him, we would have never come in touch with our most merciful Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and his followers. And those who come after will carry the same parampara torch of prema bhakti as freely delivered by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu to generations hereafter.

The purpose of this article is not for extensive glorification and appreciation of Srila Saraswati Thakur. That will be done on his Vyasa-puja day celebrations in ISKCON and Gaudiya Math temples throughout the world. Our purpose here is to inform the reader of the related celebrations at ISKCON Mayapur which will precede the historic opening of the Nrsimhadeva Wing in the TOVP on March 2, to be offered to Srila Saraswati Thakur and Srila Prabhupada at that time for their divine pleasure.

The Grand 150th Vyasa-puja celebration on February 29 is being organized by the Saraswata Gaudiya Vaishnava Association, an initiative of the Bhaktivedanta Swami Charity Trust that strives to bring together Sarasvata Gaudiya Vaishnavas, regardless of their institutional affiliations, for the pleasure of Srila Saraswati Thakur Prabhupada.

The festival will consist of glorifications of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati by ISKCON leaders and members of the Saraswata Gaudiya Vaishnava Association, pushpanjali, maha arati, kirtan and a feast in honor of His Divine Grace. However, a major event will be the offering of a unique exhibit named, Revolutionary Acharya Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupada by the Kolkata-based Bhaktivedanta Research Center.

The exhibit will showcase the life of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupada, from his appearance to his disappearance. It takes one through his rise to becoming a world acharya and preacher, the innumerable contributions he made to modern Gaudiya Vaishnavism, his extensive travels, the installation of the footprints of Mahaprabhu in eight locations, his theistic spiritual exhibitions held in various places of India, his prolific writing and publishing of innumerable books and articles, culminating in the opening of 64 maths throughout India.

Read more: https://iskconnews.org/150th-vyasa-puja-celebration-of-srila-bhaktisiddhanta-saraswati-tovp-nrsimha-wing-opening/

A Combination Of Mercy And Nectar Was The Mood Of The Celebration!https://iskcondesiretree.com/profiles/blogs/a-combination-of-mercy-and-nectar-was-the-mood-of-the-celebration2024-02-26T13:04:19.000Z2024-02-26T13:04:19.000ZISKCON Desire Treehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/members/iskcon_desire_tree

It is now official! From the enthralling Nityananda Trayodasi that was celebrated on the 22nd of February, the festivities in Mayapur have finally taken their course. From now to the end of March, it will be one festival to another, and hence, the atmosphere in Sri Mayapur Dham is basking with a lot of auspicious activities.

“I humbly bow down to and glorify Lord Sri NityAnanda Prabhu, on whose beautiful left lotus ear one elegant pearl ornament is swinging. Accepting the role as the elder brother of the Supreme Lord Gauranga Mahaprabhu, Lord Nityananda Prabhu sanctified the whole world and purified all the living entities.”

While a magnificent celebration was happening right here at Sri Dham Mayapur for the celebration of Nityananda Trayodasi, devotees were simultaneously at Ekachakra Dham participating in the Kirtan festival going on. It was not just double mercy for many, but a rare fortune! The deities were both dressed out of this world; Srimati Radharani and Her gopis were indeed at work, making such a special arrangement for the occasion by entering into the minds of the dressers. How can that not be? Lord Nitai was looking extremely sophisticated and smiling so brightly. You can tell that that smile was not ordinary; He was in fact pleased with the care taken to elaborately make such a beautiful, heartfelt endeavor to please him. And for sure, Lord Nitai was pleased because He is very merciful. One doesn’t have to bring the mountains to Lord Nitai before He becomes pleased; because He is Bhakta-vatsala, Sri Nityananda is affectionate to His devotees. Therefore, He is always very merciful in our little endeavor! Jai Nitai Gaura!

Now in Sri Mayapur Dham, for every step you take, you must purse to make a dandavat. What does this mean? It means our very grand parents, Srila Prabhupada’s warriors, and senior devotees are all here, with lots more to come, to give us their association and as well participate in the grand celebration of the Maha-Abhisheka of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu and His associates. MERCY IS THE NAME!!!

Over 4000 nationals, with many more yet to come from different countries all over the world, are now gathering at this auspicious birthplace of Lord Gaura to participate in His glorious leela again. Our eyes might not see all that is happening beyond our material perception, but for sure, the Lord’s mercy is here, and He is coming soon to grace us even more with His loving mercy.

Sankirtan parties are everywhere, singing and dancing all around the campus, and book distributors are at every corner, doing their magic to assist Lord Gaura and the Acharyas in distributing the mercy of the love of Godhead! Lectures, seminars, kathas, bhajans, and many more are taking place at every point; you just have to be ready to grab the mercy once you are here. Tents, mini markets, and book stalls have been arranged nicely to meet the needs of everyone, so you don’t have to seearch too.

By Atma Tattva Das

Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Cueramaro, Guanajuato, Mexico, a transformative vision is taking shape—a vision that not only embodies the spirit of devotion and community but also lays the foundation for a harmonious blend of spiritual and studious living. The New Bahulavana Community, located in Cueramaro, about 200 kilometers east of Guadalajara is on the cusp of completing its majestic ISKCON temple—a testament to the unwavering dedication and perseverance of its founder, Trilokanath Das, and the vibrant community that envelops this burgeoning spiritual oasis.

Cueramaro, translating to “Coat of the Swamps,” carries a rich history steeped in the pre-Columbian era when Guachichil people inhabited the region. Over time, it became dominated by the Purépecha, leaving an indelible mark on the municipality. In the present day, Cueramaro is undergoing a transformation, with the New Bahulavana Community standing as a beacon of spiritual rejuvenation in a world often swayed away from its roots.

The wellspring of the Bahulavana project traces back to the early experiences of Trilokanath Prabhu. Inspired by the joyous devotees he encountered during a festival in 1985, the seed of a dream was planted—to build a temple that radiates the same happiness and devotion. It wasn’t until 2000 that the project began to take shape when he, along with his wife Mohini Rupa Devi Dasi and son Arjuna Das, decided to embark on a journey to Guanajuato.

In ISKCON New’s interview with Nrsimha Kripa Das, director of BBT Mexico and Cueramaro community member, the vision of Bahulavana unfolded, “The vision was to provide a haven for devotees, especially those transitioning from the Brahmachari ashram to Grihastha,” Nrsimha Kripa shared. The farm, according to him, was envisioned as a place where families could continue their spiritual journey, adhering to Srila Prabhupada’s instructions on creating self-sufficient Krishna-conscious communities.

Read more: https://iskconnews.org/a-stunning-temple-and-community-is-manifesting-in-the-heart-of-mexico/

ISKCON Chennai Temple Flooded by Cyclone; Devotees Evacuatedhttps://iskcondesiretree.com/profiles/blogs/iskcon-chennai-temple-flooded-by-cyclone-devotees-evacuated2023-12-12T14:02:16.000Z2023-12-12T14:02:16.000ZISKCON Desire Treehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/members/iskcon_desire_tree

One of the temples that Srila Prabhupada established is situated close to the US capital city, Washington DC. It is a place of worship where people from all backgrounds can go to learn about and practise bhakti-yoga.

I wanted to visit some of the temples where Srila Prabhupada stayed. He spent one week in Potomac in 1976 and it was important for me to see the property and make a film about what I experienced. I had a pleasant stay, meeting some of the devotees there.

Now, many years later, the devotees in Potomac are building a new temple. This film (part 1) captures the community at a particular moment in time. It is one in a series of films that are coming soon.

Festivities abounded in Naperville, Illinois as ISKCON devotees prepared to install the Deities of Sri Sri Radha Syamasundar and Lord Caitanya and to inaugurate a new temple building for Their Lordships. The event lasted three full days (April 20-22nd) and included a variety of auspicious celebrations, yajnas, and pujas. Sacred fire yajnas were held each morning, followed by roaring kirtans in the afternoons, and then followed by more yajnas and ceremonies into the night.

The four-year building project, costing 6 million dollars to complete, was made possible by more than 500 families who contributed financial support. The temple president Premananda Devi Dasi described the new facility, “The temple has three floors, including a banquet hall, commercial kitchen, gift shop, residential quarters, a snack bar, conference rooms, and a temple hall six times larger than we had before. It’s a wonderful facility for our growing congregation.”

The inaugural celebrations began Thursday morning with carrying Srila Prabhupada’s murti on a palanquin from the old temple (a small repurposed church the devotees have used for several years) to his vyasasana in the new temple. Over the course of three days, several thousand people attended the events. Among them were dignitaries, including two US Congressmen: Ro Khanna, a California Congressman with roots in Chicago, and Raja Krishnamoorthi, a US Congressman from suburban Chicago. Additionally, a Member of the Illinois House of Representatives and Members of the County Commissioners and the Naperville City Council attended.

Read more: https://iskconnews.org/iskcon-naperville-installs-new-deities-and-inaugurates-their-temple/

25th anniversary of the ISKCON East of Kailash templehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/profiles/blogs/25th-anniversary-of-the-iskcon-east-of-kailash-temple2023-04-04T13:33:49.000Z2023-04-04T13:33:49.000ZISKCON Desire Treehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/members/iskcon_desire_tree

“Now, how am I going to scale that formidable gate? It looks like someone forgot to leave me a key for that safety lock that I see before me.” These were my thoughts. I gave a sight push to the gate, but nothing was budging. I wanted to make it on time for 4:30 am meditations at the temple.

Okay! I surrender. I did the climb and that seven foot gate was kind to me afterall.

Then I hit the road, or rather, the moon crater terrain. The roads are so bad here. Locals say it’s because huge trucks are allowed to access these roadways built only for light cars.

Anyways, I made it to the temple meditations. So my day started off fine with changing and delivering classes. The 9 am timeslot was scheduled for a drive to the excellent beach at Mayaro. There, the devotee community bonded over water fun, picnic prasadam, and casual chats. This is important.

Finally, 5 pm was the time marked for initiations for eight great souls. The names given to these wonderful candidates – Vinay Vishnu, Aja, Ranchor, Buddhi Manta, Rama Avatar for the man, and Leenakshi, Nandita, and Sriya for the women. A happy kirtan, a talk on bhakti collaboration, a fire ceremony, and to top it off, ‘doubles’ – a chickpea spread over bread. All went well.

I refuse to walk through the potholes on my return to the residence where I’m staying.

I learned that this 70-year-old swami didn’t have to jump over any gate. It was open all the way. I just missed out on swinging it open the right way.

A 50th installation offering to Sri Sri Radha Ksira-Chora Gopinatha

In 2019, the Building Improvement Committee (BIC) at ISKCON Toronto embarked on a monumental task of revolutionizing the facilities and spaces within the temple to accommodate the growing community and to ensure that the building is efficiently serving the needs of the devotees. Thus, theTemple for the Future Renovation Projectwas born.

Initially, the renovations started with a new and beautiful accessible washroom on the main floor of the temple as well as a rejuvenation of the Govinda’s restaurant.

BIC has now completed Phases 1, 2, and 3 of the project which involved an amazing transformation and overhaul of the basement space of the temple including modernizing and creating new public washroom facilities, a complete education wing with classrooms and a seminar room, a resident prasadam area, as well as rebuilding the devotee residence quarters.

Read more: https://iskconnews.org/iskcon-toronto-the-transformation-and-the-new-faces/

ISKCON of San Diego’s New Bhakta Program by Badrinarayan Swamihttps://iskcondesiretree.com/profiles/blogs/iskcon-of-san-diego-s-new-bhakta-program-by-badrinarayan-swami2022-05-12T10:17:55.000Z2022-05-12T10:17:55.000ZISKCON Desire Treehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/members/iskcon_desire_tree

The San Diego temple is now ready to offer a service to other temples in North America.
We are building a relationship with Vrndavana, and as we know, Vrndavana is all about devotional service. Whether you are engaging in hearing and chanting or whether you are doing another service in Vrndavana, it is ultimately all about service in the dhama. Service is the way to penetrate into Vrndavana. So, when we go to Vrndavana, we start making a connection, and then we go again and again where we meditate on Vrndavana. This way, our connection to Vrndavana grows deeper and so does our desire to be in Vrndavana. In this way, it is a lifetime relationship which has to evolve, and this happens through our service.

Sri Udupi Dhama Yatra

Sri Pajaka Ksetra / Sri Parasurama Ksetra

Holy town of Udupi is famous for its most revered Sri Krishna Udupi Temple. Udupi is said to have attained the status of Vaikuntha, because the Lord Krishna came here from Dwarka and stayed here in response to the desire of His pure devotee Sri Madhvacarya. This temple was founded by Sri Madhvacarya (A.D. 1238–1317), one of the greatest Vaishnava saints and proponent of Dvaita philosophy of Vedanta. Near Udupi there is a small village Pajaka Ksetra, which is the birthplace of Madhvacarya. This area of India is sometimes called Parasurama Ksetra. The word ‘Udupi’ means the ‘moon’ or ‘the lord of the stars’, because at this place the demigod of the moon Chandra, who was cursed by Daksha, came to worship Lord Mahadev for the purpose of being relieved from that curse. Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu also visited Udupi as described in Sri Caitanya Caritamrta Madhya-lila chapter 9 verse 245. Udupi lies on the Arabian sea in the South Indian state of Karnataka. Since ancient times, Udupi is renowned as a holy place because it was a centre of Vedic scholarship and the site of two ancient temples – Sri Ananteshvara and Sri Candramauleshvara.

Udupi is in southern India, 1-hour drive from Mangalore which has international airport and is well connected to all parts of India by air, road and rail.

How Deity of Krishna came to Udupi?

The amazing pastime of how the Bala Krishna deity (Krishna in child form) crossed the ocean from faraway Dwarka to Udupi in the south is narrated in Madhva-vijaya, the biography of Madhvacarya. Madhva wanted to have a temple of Lord Krishna in Udupi so that the devotees could then worship and serve the Lord. It so happened that in Dwarka, one of the main places of Krishna’s pastimes on earth 5,000 years ago, a Deity lay concealed within a large mass of gopi-candana clay. No one knew the Deity was there, but because the lump of clay was exceedingly heavy, some sailors loaded it onto their merchant ship as ballast. On the ship’s southward journey, just off the coast of Udupi, a tempest blew the ship aground on a sandbank.

On that very day, Madhvacarya absorbed in composing Dvadasha-stotra, his famous twelve-part poem praising Lord Krishna, had gone to the beach to bath or, as some say, to receive the Lord. And as he was composing those prayers, there was a heavy windstorm. There was a boat of merchant who was coming from Dwarka and he put so much of his life savings into the goods that he was taking to south to sell. But the storm was so turbulent that his boat was sinking. He was helpless and was about to die. And right at the last moment, he happened to see Madhvacarya sitting in meditation on the seashore. And he cried out because he saw, he is a yogi, a saint, maybe he could help me. He was taking shelter.

Merchant saw the beautiful form of Madhvacarya and in such a helpless state, he cried out “Help!”. Madhvacarya had a saffron chadar on and he took that cloth and just waved it, and the storm disappeared and the ocean became calm. And then Madhvacarya just turned and waved, and the wind took his boat to the shore and everything was fine. So this merchant had full realization that this yogi saved his life, wealth and everything! And he came down with deep gratitude and bowed down to Madhvacarya and said, “I have so much wealth on this boat, I will give you anything you want. What can I give you; I will give you the whole boat!” Madhvacarya said, “I don’t want anything. What do I need?”

“Devotees who have Lord Krishna in the hearts are atma rama, they are self-satisfied. If you are not satisfied with Krishna in your heart, no matter what you have, you will never be satisfied.”

But the merchant really wanted to serve Madhvacarya and said, “I have gold, pots, boat! Anything, I will give you.” Madhvacarya said, “You are coming from Dwarka?” He said, “Yes.” He said, “Do you have any gopi chandan?” Gopi chandan is clay! In those days, that clay was easy to get in Dwarka, and sailors, in order to balance their ship would have gopi chandan because it didn’t cost anything. For a devotee, gopi chandan is very important. Near Dwarka, there is a place called Gopi Talav, where Gopis came and bathed. The dust from the feet of all of the gopis became that clay. So from a businessman’s perspective in those days, it was worth nothing; but for Madhvacarya, it was worth everything! It is the dust of the feet of Krishna and Radha and Gopis, and we put it on our bodies, it is called tilak. We put it one our foreheads, 12 parts of our body, and it’s the way of consecrating our body, mind, words and life to Krishna.

So he said, “Please give me, you have some gopi chandan?” He said, “Yes, I have two mounds of gopi chandan!” Madhvacarya took two mounds of gopi chandan. Madhvacarya had just started back to Udupi with the large lump of clay when, but a short distance from the beach, the lump broke in two, revealing the handsome deity of Lord Bala Krishna and the deity of Balarama. But now the combined effort of 30 disciples of Madhva’s could not budge the deity. Only when Madhvacarya himself embraced and lifted the deity as if He were a child did the deity consent to be moved. In great transcendental ecstasy Madhva carried the Lord four miles back to Udupi. On the way he completed the remaining seven parts of Dvadasha-stotra, reciting the verses out loud. Madhvacarya consecrated Lord Balarama’s deity in the Vadabhandeshwara temple near the Malpe beach. In Udupi, Madhva bathed the Lord Bala Krishna in the lake known as Madhva-sarovara and enshrined Him in the Sri Krishna Matha. Srila Madhvacarya instituted rigorous standards for worshipping Sri Krishna, and whenever he was in Udupi he would personally perform the 13 daily worship ceremonies for the Lord.

How the deity of Bala Krishna had come to be buried in Dwarka?

Madhvacarya knew the history of this deity. 5000 years ago when Lord Krishna manifested His pastimes in Dwarka, His mother Devaki expressed to Krishna in the inner chambers of their palace, that, “I heard so many beautiful lilas about your charming childhood activities in Vrindavana. Yasoda, as Your mother, she was a witness; she could be the part of those childhood activities. I heard stories where You would just be a naughty little boy and You’d steal butter and You’d completely conquer everyone’s hearts. By the time You came back to me, You were a prince! I want to see those pastimes that as Your mother, I never saw You as a little child.”

So Krishna fulfilled Devaki’s desires. He manifested Himself as Bal Gopal, little Krishna. And He jumped on her lap, drank her milk and then He went and started breaking butter pots, He was stealing, He was doing all this little childhood pastimes. He was holding stick and a rope for churning butter. As He was stealing, Devaki was completely mesmerized. She was thinking in her heart, I have never experienced such happiness as this, Your Vrindavana lila.

Rukmini, Lord Krishna’s queen, was watching, and she never experienced such happiness as seeing Krishna’s Bal lila of Vrindavana. She requested Krishna, “I want to worship You in this form as Bal Gopal stealing butter. Please give me a murti that I could worship?” So Krishna called Vishwakarma to carve that identical form that Rukmini was seeing of Krishna of Vrindavana as the butter thief, and he carved, out of a pure Saligram Sila, that form of Krishna, and in one hand He is holding a stick and in another a rope. Rukmini Devi, although she was personally serving Dwarkadisa Krishna day and night, her greatest happiness was in worshipping this deity form in the temple in her inner room of Gopal. Years later, when the Yadu dynasty went back to the spiritual realm, Arjuna, Krishna’s dearest friend, brought the deity of Rukmini after the Rukmini had already left, and put it in Rukmini’s garden. And over the years this deity was covered by gopi chandan along with the deity of Balarama, and was completely lost. So those sailors they didn’t know, there was anything inside that lump of gopi chandan. But it was Lord Krishna’s and Balarama’s wish to come here to Udupi to be worshipped by Madhvacarya, and later to be visited by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

Before Madhvacarya’s departure from this world, he appointed eight of his sannayasi disciples in-charge of the worship at Sri Krishna Matha and propagate Krishna consciousness. Today the responsibility for the worship is rotated in two-year periods called Paryaaya among eight sannayasis in disciplic succession from the original eight. During the fourteen-year interim period between turns at paryaaya, each sannayasi travels and preaches and raises funds for use when his turn for worship comes. Each sannayasi also heads his own Matha, where other deities, ones given by Madhvacarya to the original eight sannayasis, are worshipped. These eight Mathas are located along Car Street, a road that circles the Candramauleshvara and Ananteshvara temples and runs right past the main entrance to Sri Krishna Matha.

Merchant analogy: We can see an analogy in this pastime. That merchant who was on the ship is like the jiva atma and the boat is like the human form of life and the Arabian Sea (the ocean), is like the ocean of samsara. The purpose of human life is to take the jiva atma across the ocean of samsara to the abode of Krishna. That storm is like the attraction of the senses for their objects, lust, envy, anger, arrogance, greed, illusion, all of these human frailties, we want to be the controller, the proprietor, the enjoyer, and there are so many distractions! Mental distraction is desire for recognition, prestige, adoration and then there’s the senses that want to feel something, touch something, taste something, hear something, smell something, see something, just enjoy.

That’s like the storm, and that storm, if we get too attached to the attractions between the mind and the senses for the objects of this world, we sink in the ocean of samsara and in that sinking we take birth after birth after birth again. But Madhvacarya, in this case, he is the grace Krishna which comes through the grace of spiritual master (guru), the grace of Vaishnavas (sadhu), the grace of holy scriptures (sastra).

And like the man on that boat, when the jiva really realizes his helpless condition in this ocean of material existence and really understands how helpless we are in the storms of the temptations and aversions of maya, we cry out, we take shelter, and when we do, by the grace of the Lord, He helps us. And one of the first ways He helps us is he teaches us what really is of value. The man’s wealth, everything else, Madhvacarya didn’t give much value to that but gopi chandan, that had value. What is gopi chandan? We put the tilak of gopi chandan on our bodies to represent a Vaishnava life style. The gopi chandan represents the character, the aspiration, the sadhana, living a life of a Vaishnava. So the grace of Guru and the grace of Lord is they give us this type of life to live, to live as servant of the servant, to live with morality for Lord Sri Krishna’s pleasure, to live as an instrument of compassion for Lord Krishna’s pleasure.

yoginam api sarvesam
mad-gatenantar-atmana

Lord Krishna tells, “Of all yogis, one who abides in Me with great faith is most intimately united Me with in yoga and is the highest of all.” So to actually receive, when we asked Srila Prabhupada, “What can we do to repay you for all you have given us?” He said, “Just sincerely accept this path of devotional service and share with others.” That’s the life of a devotee. Gopi chandan represents when we get the grace of guru we receive what he gives us, a life of service, a life of purification and through that grace, Krishna appears.

Parasurama Ksetra – Land of Parasurama: This area of India is called Parasurama Ksetra. Long ago, we read in Bhagavat Purana and other Puranas, The Supreme Lord Krishna appeared in His 6th incarnation as Parasurama. Seeing the egoism, selfishness, self-centered corruption among the power hungry leaders of the world, He as the brahmana took the role of Ksatriya. And for 21 generations, He freed the world from such corruption, and ultimately He conquered the world. But He didn’t do anything for Himself. When everything was in order and nice, He took the entire world, the everything He had conquered, and gave it to the brahmanas headed by Kashyapa Muni, and there was nothing left for Himself.

But He wanted a place to do His bhajan, but He could not take away what He had already given. So He came to this area and He shot an arrow with a mantra and arrow went out to the sea, and where that arrow landed, the sea receded and what was once ocean became land from Kanyakumari up to Rambi area of Gokarna. So He didn’t take anything He had given. It was brand new land, and that is where He resided. And there are many beautiful stories that He personally appeared for the pleasure of His devotees in the form of the Ananteshwar murti in Udupi, who appears to be Lord Siva but it is Lord Vishnu. And close to there is Chandramauleshwar temple where Chandra, the presiding lord in the moon planet, performed tapasya and worshipped to Lord Siva. And Lord Siva appeared as the Siva lingam to him to bless him and to bless the world. So these, in this very ancient town of Udupi were the two temples.

The ISKCON Kolkata temple has rebuilt damaged areas after an April 26th fire which burned the Deities’ dress room with all 300 outfits in it. Jewelry, furniture, doors, windows, and the air-conditioning system were completely destroyed, while there was also some burn damage to the paint on the wall of the adjoining altar room.

The presiding Deities of Sri Sri Radha Govindaji, Sriman Mahaprabhu, and Sri Sri Jagannath Baladev Subhadradevi were unharmed, and were moved to Srila Prabhupada’s room as a precaution as soon as the fire was discovered. The fire was put out by local fire brigade and police within about 25 minutes.

According to temple president Dayaram Das, the fire brigade forensic department later found the cause of the fire to be a short circuit in the air-conditioning system.

Since then, following guidelines given by the fire brigade, the 400-square-foot deity dress room has been completely rebuilt without any combustible or wooden materials. It now has a tin roof, iron beams, and steel drawers and almiras for the Deities’ dresses and jewelry.

Read more: https://iskconnews.org/iskcon-kolkata-rebuilds-after-april-fire,8006/

ISKCON of D.C.
ISKCON of Washington D.C. held a three-day Bhumi Puja (ground-breaking) event from August 20th to 22nd, preceding a new 22,000 square-foot temple for Sri Sri Radha Madan Mohan, Sita Rama Lakshman Hanuman, and Gaura Nitai.

The event took place at the current D.C. temple property, which is situated on eleven acres of rolling wooded terrain with a creek running through it. The same property will also be home to the new temple, while the old building will be converted for other purposes.

Priests performing the Bhumi Puja ceremonies included head priest Govinda Bhakta Das from Salt Lake City, Manorama Krishna Das from Washington D.C., Gokula Madhava Das from nearby ISKCON Baltimore, and Chaitanya Bhagavan Das, who coordinated all the rituals.

The groundbreaking began on Friday with the digging of the ceremonial pit, and a large inaugural Agnihotra fire ceremony. On Saturday morning, devotees carried small Utsaha (festival) forms of ISKCON of D.C.’s presiding deities on palanquins around the temple property three times, accompanied by kirtan.

Source: https://iskconnews.org/iskcon-of-dc-performs-bhumi-puja-for-new-22000-square-foot-temple,7976/

Hera Panchamihttps://iskcondesiretree.com/profiles/blogs/hera-panchami-12021-07-15T09:30:00.000Z2021-07-15T09:30:00.000ZISKCON Desire Treehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/members/iskcon_desire_tree

Hera Panchami is a unique festival at the Gundicha Temple. ‘Hera’ means to ‘see’ and ‘Panchami’ means the ‘fifth day’. On the fifth day of the Rathayatra Festival, Goddess Lakshmi becomes very worried and thinks, "Where has my husband gone? He told me, I am going for a change of environment for some days, and I will return very soon. It has been five days now, and still He has not come back." She appears anxious because her husband forgets to take her. Four weary nights have already passed and Goodess Lakshmi becomes disconsolate. She goes to the Gundicha Temple on the 5th day to see Lord Jagannath. The main doors of Gundicha temple are suddenly closed with a bang. She returns with a heavy heart and in a fit of anger breaks a small part of the Nandighosa chariot (the chariot of Lord Jagannath) and returns secretly to the main temple via Hera Gohri Sahi. It is all to teach a lesson to her beloved husband.

Hera Panchami…a grand festival which takes place on 5th day from Rath Yatra. On the Rath Yatra day, Lord Jagannath leaves the temple in Jagannath Puri (representing Dwarka) and goes to Gundica temple (representing Vrindavan). Before leaving Sri Jagannathji took leave from His wife Lakshmiji and promises her that He would be back next day. But it is now 5th day and there is no news of Sri Jagannathji. So Lakshmiji calls upon her servants and prepares a well-armed party to bring back Lord Jagannath. She goes to the Gundica temple with lot of show and pomp. On reaching the temple, they start beating and arresting the servants of Lord Jagannath and then makes them promise to return the Lord worst case by next day. While returning back from Gundica temple, Mother Lakshmi’s servants attack the Nandigosh cart – the Ratha of Lord Jagannath (which brought Lord Jagannath to Gundica temple) and breaks off a small piece of cart to take back with them.

This is a very sweet pastime which is being celebrated every year at Jagannath Puri. It is unfortunate that due to work pressures and nature of our lifestyle here, we are not able to fully celebrate Rath Yatra by performing such festivals which adds to the sweet taste of Rath Yatra. I sincerely wish that a day would come when we can celebrate Gundica Marjan a day before Rath Yatra and we can do the Hera Panchami festival….but I am not sure if we want to bring back Lord Jagannath from Vrindavan to Dwarka….let the Lord enjoy with his beloved Vrajvasis. Even if we cant personally organize these festivals in detail we can atleast read about them, hear about them, and discuss about them with devotees to sooth our aching heart. The word Hera’ means ‘to see’ and ‘Panchami’ means ‘on fifth day’. So on this day, Mother Lakshmi very impatient to see her beloved Lord Jagannath, marches onto Gundica temple and creates a scene for Lord to return.

Sri Caitanya Caritamrta
Madhyalila

In the garden along the road from the Jagannatha temple to Gundica, Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu performed various pastimes. A brahmana named Krsnadasa performed the bathing ceremony of Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

After dancing in the Gundica temple, the Lord sported in the water with His devotees, and on Hera-pancami day they all saw the activities of the goddess of fortune, Laksmidevi.

Knowing that the Hera-pancami festival was drawing near, King Prataparudra attentively talked with Kasi Misra.

“Tomorrow will be the function of Hera-pancami or Laksmi-vijaya. Hold this festival in a way that it has never been held before.”

This Hera-pancami festival takes place five days after the Ratha-yatra festival. Lord Jagannatha has left His wife, the goddess of fortune, and gone to Vrndavana, which is the Gundica temple. Due to separation from the Lord, the goddess of fortune decides to come to see the Lord at Gundica. The coming of the goddess of fortune to Gundica is celebrated by Hera-pancami. Sometimes this is misspelled as Hara-pancami. The word hera means “to see” and refers to the goddess of fortune going to see Lord Jagannatha. The word pancami means “the fifth day” and is used because this takes place on the fifth day of the moon.

Lord Nrsimhadeva Reciprocates Instantly!https://iskcondesiretree.com/profiles/blogs/lord-nrsimhadeva-reciprocates-instantly-12021-02-05T10:14:01.000Z2021-02-05T10:14:01.000ZISKCON Desire Treehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/members/iskcon_desire_tree

By Pankajanghri Prabhu

The fact that people just love to hear stories is one reason why some of the Vedic codes were gradually transmitted in story form, like the epic histories Mahabharata and Ramayana and the Puranas. When such stories concern the pastimes of the Lord and His devotees, they are called lilas. Being labeled Lord Nrsimhadeva’s pujari in Mayapur, I have been asked to recount some stories in connection with Him, but unlike the sastras (scriptures), these “lilas” (pastimes) have no authority except for the testimony of the devotees who told them. In most cases there were no other witnesses. Although I am generally quite skeptical when it comes to accepting other people’s mystical experiences as truth, just too many things started happening recently, not to sit up and take notice.
For instance, during the last Gaura Purnima festival, I called over a devotee in the crowd and asked her to distribute the Lord’s caranamrta to the ladies, which she did. Later, when she brought the caranamrta pot back, she remarked that Lord Nrsimhadeva was very merciful to reciprocate so quickly.
“I was praying this morning that I might be able to offer some direct service to Him, and now you have given me this service.”
“Yes,” I said, “desires are quickly fulfilled in the dham. Just see, the same day you desire, it happened.”
“No, not the same day–the same moment,” she replied. “The very instant I expressed that desire to serve Him, you called me over.”
“Wow! that is amazing,” I acknowledged. “Did you hear about how one devotee’s eye problem was cured at the same time that Lord Nrsimhadeva’s original eyes were placed back, after one donor had bought Him new eyes?”
“Oh, yes,” she told me. “As a matter of fact, I was staying in the same building when Lord Nrsimhadeva spoke to her.” She added, “You know, there was so much energy around that night that nobody could get any sleep.”

Just a few days later, another devotee revealed how Lord Nrsimhadeva helped him. “I was suffering intensely. I could not even stand without supporting myself on the column in front of Lord Nrsimhadeva’s altar. I prayed, ‘Please help me. Take away this suffering condition so that I may serve You fully.’ I then felt all my pain moving up and flowing out of my body. It just left.”
While I was hearing this, I noticed another devotee who had come for the darshan of the Lord. Earlier in the morning this devotee had asked my advice what to do, for she had been afflicted for about two weeks with a severe problem that contaminated her body, that wouldn’t allow her to paint some Deities in Assam, although she had already been commissioned to do it and had an air ticket to go.
“Mataji,” I exclaimed while walking over to her, “Lord Nrsimhadeva is giving instant benedictions. Why don’t you ask Him to remove your problem?”
The very next morning, when she saw me, she said “Thank you so much for the advice! You know, when I arrived home from the temple yesterday, my problem had completely disappeared.”
Some days later another devotee came to the pujari room and told us about a dream, wherein Lord Nrsimhadeva walked and talked with her just like a father. When she asked how she could serve Him, He told her to offer Him some mangoes. It wasn’t the mango season, but she managed to get some, and we offered them for her. This was the year that His Holiness Gour Govinda Swami left his body in Mayapur.
A few days after this tragedy she came again and said, “Actually, I only told you half of the dream. Lord Nrsimhadeva also said to me, “My pujari is very dear to Me, and I am going to take him back with Me.”
“Oh, don’t do that, please,” I fearfully exclaimed. “We want him to stay here.”
“No, I think I will take him back.”
“And after my pleading with Him for a long time, the Lord firmly announced. ‘All right, then, I will take one of the gurus instead.’”
She concluded by saying, “I told my spiritual master about this dream, and he advised me not to tell anyone. But now, because it has come true, I think I can tell you.”
When I repeated this story to my friend, Visvambhar from Carolina, he said, “This is amazing! My wife also dreamed about Lord Nrsimhadeva and mangoes. You see, yesterday, while she was walking outside the Mayapur campus, she saw a jar of mango pickles in a shop and desired to buy them for Lord Nrsimhadeva. But doubting the purity of the contents, she refrained. However, last night, Lord Nrsimhadeva appeared in her dream and asked, “Where are My mango pickles?”
When Lord Nrsimhadeva first came to Mayapur, all the pujaris were reluctant to worship His awesome form. Bhava Siddhi das was particularly frightened and always very nervous worshiping Him. One night, after putting the Lord to rest, he was leaving the altar, when he heard such a tremendous sound that it made his hairs stand on end. Looking back fearfully, he saw that everything was in place. So he quickly left, locked the door and paid his obeisances, praying for forgiveness for any offense he might inadvertently have committed. At the end of that night he was awakened by the shaking of his bed. Bhava Siddhi was sleeping on the top of a bunk bed. So he thought it must be the pujari below him getting up for mangala-arati (morning worship).
However, when he opened his eyes, he saw Lord Nrsimhadeva sitting on his bed. That fortunate pujari became very fearful, practically to the point of panic. As he tried to get up, Lord Nrsimhadeva place His two hands, which felt like the weight of the universe, on his shoulders. “Be peaceful, be calm,” the Lord consoled him. “I have just come to tell you that when you worship Me in the temple, there is no need to fear Me. Please, give up this fear.”
The Lord then disappeared, but Bhava Siddhi began to run up and down the veranda of the Long Building, where he slept.
“What happened?” asked some concerned devotees. But they received only incoherent replies. They started to think maybe he had gone mad or become haunted by a ghost. Finally Bhava Siddhi ran over the the temple and prostrated himself before the door where Lord Nrsimhadeva is worshiped and offered heartfelt prayers. After some time he became a little pacified, and began walking back to his room. “I wonder why everyone is staring at me,” he thought. When he looked down, the answer was obvious: He had gone to the temple in his night dress.

I saw Bhava Siddhi at last year’s Gaura Purnima festival–he is living in America now–and asked him about that incident. “Yes,” he said. “I still have those two marks from Lord Nrsimhadeva on my shoulders. They are almost gone now, but they are still visible.”
He wasn’t the only one to claim to have seen Lord Nrsimhadeva. Once, a devotee from a nearby Gaudiya Math came to offer worship to Lord Nrsimhadeva and told our head pujari, Jananivas, that on Nrsimha Caturdasi (the Appearance Day of Nrsimhadeva), he had been staying up all night chanting. Then, at the end of the night, Lord Nrsimhadeva manifested Himself in his room. It was the form of Nrsimhadeva from the ISKCON temple, and He appeared to be smiling very sweetly at me. My Guru Maharaj said I was very fortunate and should come here and worship Lord Nrsimhadeva.
Another time the frantic parents of a runaway boy, after searching all over the country, finally heard that their son was at our Mayapur center. They immediately came and spent the whole day looking for him, inquiring at the reception desk and from individual devotees, but they were not at all lucky in tracing him.
At the end of the day, during the sandhya arati (evening worship) of Lord Nrsimhadeva, his mother was praying with folded hands,”My dear Lord, the last time I came here, I happily participated in the chanting and dancing, but now my heart is broken because of my lost son, and I find no pleasure in life anymore. My Lord, if only my son could be returned to me, then I would also raise my hands and chant ‘Haribol, Hare Krishna.’”
As these words left her mouth, a figure passed and stepped before her and Lord Nrsimhadeva: it was her lost son. Both parents have now accepted Vaishnava
initiation, started a nama hatta preaching center, and are enthusiastically preaching the Lord’s glories.
There are other stories–some I would be hesitant to repeat, and others that I can’t, having been told them in confidence. The devotees who told me these stories have had their faith and conviction strengthened, and certainly mine was, too, by hearing them. So if others derive the same benefit from reading them–even though they are not sastra (scripture)–it will be most beneficial. They help us advance in Krishna consciousness.

Source: https://www.mayapur.com/2021/lord-nrsimhadeva-reciprocates-instantly/

Book Offering - I'll Build You a Temple: The Juhu Storyhttps://iskcondesiretree.com/profiles/blogs/book-offering-i-ll-build-you-a-temple-the-juhu-story2021-02-05T10:01:31.000Z2021-02-05T10:01:31.000ZISKCON Desire Treehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/members/iskcon_desire_tree

The book being offered to Sri Sri Radha-Rasabihari in Juhu on the temple opening's 43rd anniversary

By Nanda Kishor Das

On January 14, 2021, the much-awaited book I’ll Build You a Temple: The Juhu Story by Giriraj Swami was launched. This landmark book stands as a historical document of the blood, sweat, tears, love, and devotion that went into building the Juhu temple under Srila Prabhupada’s guidance in the 1970s. The celebration of the book’s advent coincided with the 43rd anniversary of the grand opening of Sri Sri Radha-Rasabihari’s temple at Hare Krishna Land, Juhu, Mumbai, on the auspicious day of Makara-sankranti.

The main event took place at the Juhu temple, with hundreds of devotees joining the celebrations physically or virtually. Giriraj Swami had planned to be there in person, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic was unable to travel. Devotees gathered at his ashram in Carpinteria, California, to join the celebrations on Zoom. Eminent ISKCON leaders, including Radhanath Swami and Indradyumna Swami, also Zoomed in for the event, and Gopal Krishna Goswami graced the occasion with his physical presence.

The book offered at the lotus feet of Sri Sri Krishna-Balaram in Vrindavan

After a brief introduction, Giriraj Swami led a soulful kirtan and then spoke on Srimad-Bhagavatam 3.25.21: “The symptoms of a sadhu are that he is tolerant, merciful and friendly to all living entities. He has no enemies, he is peaceful, he abides by the scriptures, and all his characteristics are sublime.” Srila Prabhupada spoke on that same verse in Juhu on November 21, 1974. He related the verse to the struggle of establishing the Juhu temple, glorifying devotees such as Giriraj Swami, who in the face of extreme opposition and seemingly insurmountable obstacles, exhibited the qualities of true sadhus.

After the lecture, Mukunda Madhava Das described Giriraj Swami as the treasure house of Srila Prabhupada’s instructions on Juhu, and he praised Maharaja’s meticulous efforts to get accurate details for the book. Gopal Krishna Goswami spoke about the history of the Radha-Rasabihari temple and Srila Prabhupada’s valiant fight to build it. Radhanath Swami described the book as the most authorized, authentic, firsthand account of the Juhu story and an invaluable resource for generations to come. Indradyumna Swami, appreciating the monumental efforts of Giriraj Swami, remembered Srila Prabhupada’s words: “Giriraj is Bombay; Bombay is Giriraj.”

The program culminated with Gopal Krishna Goswami, along with other dignitaries, offering the book first to Srila Prabhupada and then to the Deities: Sri Sri Radha-Rasabihari, Sri Sri Sita-Rama-Lakshman-Hanuman, and Sri Sri Gaura-Nitai. Of the 9,500 books to be printed, 200 had been sent ahead for the launch, and every one of them was purchased on the launch day itself.

Knowing Giriraj Swami’s love for Vrindavan, a team of his disciples and well-wishers were inspired to hold a simultaneous book launch there. They worked in cooperation with the local temple managers to organize a program. A case of books was dispatched to Vrindavan just in time for the event. When the darshan-arati ceremony began on the morning of January 14, copies of I’ll Build You a Temple: The Juhu Story shone triumphantly from every altar. Three disciples of Srila Prabhupada—Srutakirti Das, Deena Bandhu Das, and Daivisakti Dasi, all of whom had contributed to the success of the Juhu project, spoke at the event, along with Visakha Priya Dasi who played a major role in the production of the book.

The book being offered to Sri Pancha-tattva in Mayapur

Despite the cold, foggy eight-degree Celsius weather in Vrindavan that morning, all the devotees’ hearts were warmed by the presentation of this landmark book, which brought poignant reminders of the great sacrifices devotees made in the early days of ISKCON Juhu, which led to the success of what is today one of ISKCON’s most glorious temples. And the book arrived at the altars of Sridham Mayapur a few days after Makara-sankranti.

Srila Prabhupada said that his project in Bombay was his heart, and Giriraj Swami’s book reveals this heart—his unwavering faith, indomitable courage, and profound humility. I’ll Build You a Temple: The Juhu Story is a riveting piece of writing which carries the emotional intensity and sacred message of ancient texts such as the Ramayana, Mahabharata, Srimad-Bhagavatam, and Bhagavad-gita, in which great souls triumph over impossible odds.

I’ll Build You a Temple: The Juhu Story has been published by the BBT and will soon be available for devotees worldwide. For more information about the book and its availability, visit www.thejuhustory.com. Also coming up is the global launch—a two-hour event showcasing the genesis of the book and readings from the author himself. Be sure to follow “thejuhustory” on Facebook and Instagram.

ISKCON is in the process of constructing a grand Hare Krishna Temple in the city of Parsippany, New Jersey, USA. On October 24th, they celebrated an important milestone in this project - the commencement of the construction of the first walls marking a visible rise in the soon-to-be temple structure.

As part of this celebration, covered by a number of media outlets, a special kirtan was conducted followed by a presentation outlining the project as well as a series of media interviews of dignitaries, advisory committee members and temple leaders.

“It is our great honor to welcome all our guests and the media today as we celebrate this magnificent temple in the service of Lord Sri Krishna.” said Nilamani Das, Temple President of ISKCON of New Jersey, “The founder of ISKCON, Srila Prabhupada, encouraged all of his followers to promote this divine message of Bhagavad-gita and the chanting of the Hare Krishna mantra all over the world. He directed his disciples to build gorgeous temples which will be beacons of spiritual knowledge (adhyatmika jnana) and loving devotional service (bhakti) to the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna. This magnificent temple is a labor of love made possible by the incredible hard work and support of our devotees, friends, contributors and well-wishers. It is an amazing success story so far and we invite everyone to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

The 3.25 acre worksite was abuzz with construction activity, even on a Saturday, as workers quickly erected the wall-forms for the concrete structural walls that will be poured in the next few days atop the extensive network of steel-and-concrete rebar footings.

Read more: https://iskconnews.org/new-iskcon-parsipanny-temple-celebrates-important-milestone,7580/

Finding Ways to Thrive During Pandemic: The ISKCON Connecticut Communityhttps://iskcondesiretree.com/profiles/blogs/finding-ways-to-thrive-during-pandemic-the-iskcon-connecticut-com2020-11-02T13:54:36.000Z2020-11-02T13:54:36.000ZISKCON Desire Treehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/members/iskcon_desire_tree

The ISKCON Connecticut Temple has been open in East Hartford for over 40 years. The temple has a small close-knit community, with about 50-60 regular congregation members visiting the center every Sunday. In 2017, they bought a new building in Glastonbury, a suburb near Hartford, CT, and renovation is underway. When the Deity altar and new commercial kitchen are complete, relocation to Glastonbury will take place.

When COVID struck, the temple community at ISKCON Connecticut, USA, was worried as were most of the organizations worldwide. When the pandemic induced lockdown happened, it forced the members to think of ways to maintain engagement and association with other devotees.

By the grace of Lord Krishna and the guidance from the overall ISKCON community, things started to take shape. At first, the Sunday feast moved online to zoom, with live aarti and darshan. Slowly devotees started looking at the positive aspects of the forced lockdown.

Romapada Swami said in one of his lectures, "Covid has given us opportunity to do things that we were not able to do earlier. We are saving travel time of 1-2 hours every day. We can use that time to read books, listen to lectures, and do things that we always wanted to do but were not able to do due to lack of time!!"

The community found innovative ways of outreach and book distribution. They started daily Bhagavad Gita lectures and discussion sessions in the evenings and Sri Isopanisad lecture series Saturday evenings. To ensure that devotee children are also associated with their Sunday School friends, the Sunday School was also moved online. There is also a Bhagavad Gita Sloka Recital session for kids Saturday evenings. The community is also doing daily morning Srimad Bhagavatam reading sessions.

With all these sessions and events happening on a daily and weekly basis, the community is more connected and bonding even better. In addition to all this, the community also got together virtually, planned and conducted many festivals like Janamastami, Vyasa Puja, Panihati Chida Dahi festival, Snan Yatra Festival, Jagannath Ratha Yatra, Balarama Jayanti and more with a lot of enthusiasm and commitment.

Read more: https://iskconnews.org/finding-ways-to-thrive-during-pandemic-the-iskcon-connecticut-community,7575/

ISKCON Cultural Center to Open in Varanasihttps://iskcondesiretree.com/profiles/blogs/iskcon-cultural-center-to-open-in-varanasi2020-10-30T11:05:56.000Z2020-10-30T11:05:56.000ZISKCON Desire Treehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/members/iskcon_desire_tree

Since past few years ISKCON has had a small temple in the heart of Varanasi, in Bhelupur and now the temple is expanding and evolving into the impressive ‘Sri Sri Radha Gopal Mandir Vedic Indian Cultural Center’ (VICC). The talented young devotees’ ensemble of the Temple envisions making ISKCON VICC the most attractive place in Varanasi succeeding the popular Kashi Vishwanath Temple and the Ghats of River Ganga.

VICC aspires to become a source of enlightenment for spiritual seekers and a cultural symposium for tourists to cherish the rich Indian heritage. Acyuta Mohan Das, Chairman ISKCON Varanasi commented, ‘It’ll be an effort to present the traditional values and culture of Vedic India through modern means and help holistic development of the society.’

VICC was inaugurated on Radhastami this year during the Annual Anniversary Celebrations of ISKCON Varanasi temple. The Chief Architect Anup Sahni, CEO Ellypsium Architects promised to complete the project by Summer 2023, which will make ISKCON Varanasi VICC the second grand temple in Uttar Pradesh, India, after ISKCON Kanpur Temple.

VICC will provide an array of facilities, starting from yoga to accommodation for guests and students to auditoriums to three seminar halls, and an ayurvedic spa. The well-established ISKCON Bhagavat Vidyapith of Govardhan, India, will be an integral part of VICC, offering enlightening courses on Srimad Bhagavatam, Bhagavad Gita, Puranas, Upanisadas, Caitanya Caritamrta, and many other scriptures. There’ll be qualified teachers from around the world. In the seminar halls, the tourists will get a sneak peek into the rich Vedic Culture through video projections, dances, music, theatrics, etc.

Read more: https://iskconnews.org/iskcon-cultural-center-to-open-in-varanasi,7574/

Sri Krishna Haveli Complete!https://iskcondesiretree.com/profiles/blogs/sri-krishna-haveli-complete2020-09-05T09:53:44.000Z2020-09-05T09:53:44.000ZISKCON Desire Treehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/members/iskcon_desire_tree

We are happy to say that we have now successfully completed our purpose-built hall, the Sri Krishna Haveli, which will take the pressure off the main Grade II listed Manor building to provide a spacious environment that will allow you to fully appreciate your spiritual experience at Bhaktivedanta Manor. It is of course wonderful, much-awaited news, but like with many big projects there were some hurdles, heartache, and not to mention the pandemic, along the way.\

In June, ISKCON’s GBC SPT Strategic Planning Support Unit released a Temple Re-opening Guide along with a decision-making toolkit to help leaders assess the right time to re-open their temple during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In August, the Strategic Planning Support Unit (SPS) has followed up with a set of Safe Re-opening Guidelines containing safe practices for ISKCON leaders and devotees to use while visiting or doing devotional service at the temple, as well as while doing day-to-day activities such as going to work or the grocery store: https://gbcstrategicplanningteam.com/2020/08/guidelines-for-a-safe-re-opening-of-temples/

The set includes a comprehensive Safe Re-opening Handbook for all, to be distributed to your social media, WhatsApp and email contact list; a one-page Leaders’ Quick Guide on how leaders should prepare their temple for re-opening; and a Visitors’ Poster providing safe practices for visitors to follow when they come to the temple. The SPS recommends that this poster be printed and displayed at the temple entrance and at other strategic areas in and around the temple.

“The current pandemic has infected more than 24 million people globally and claimed the lives of close to 900,000 people,” says Subhananda Das, convener of the SPS. “No one knows for sure when a vaccine will be available and implemented globally, although many are in development. We are here to assist ISKCON leaders to make proactive strategic decisions in uncertain times.”

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March, ISKCON temples worldwide have been in lockdown, unable to connect with their communities or give spiritual knowledge to newcomers in person, and instead shifting these activities online. Without in-person outreach activities, the last few months have also seen temples struggling to maintain themselves, with centers in Italy, France, and South America asking for financial help via online campaigns.

In the U.S, hope has begun to appear – some temples have started reopening with locally mandated restrictions, while larger temples are getting financial assistance from the government via the PPP, or Paycheck Protection Program, which helps small businesses keep their workforce employed during the Coronavirus crisis.

New Vrindaban, West Virginia – ISKCON’s biggest place of pilgrimage in North America – was one of those faced with many challenges during the crisis.

“Our whole temple is set up to receive guests from around the country, take care of them, enlighten them with Krishna consciousness, and if possible connect them to their local centers,” says president Jaya Krsna Das. “Therefore, we have a much bigger staff than any city temple – about 50 in the winter and 105 in the summer.”

Read more: https://iskconnews.org/new-vrindaban-reopens-to-pilgrims-with-precautions-in-place,7381/

At Seva Kunj, Sridham Vrindavana (next to Sri Sri Radha-Damodara Temple)

Sri Vrindavana Dhama is the holiest of all the holy places. Even the denizens of heaven desire to take birth in this holy land, which is purified by the touch of Lord Krishna’s lotus feet. Among the seven main temples of Gaudiya Vaishnava sect in Sri Vrindavana Dhama, the temple of Sri Sri Radha Shyamsundar has carved a special place for itself in the hearts of all the Vaishnavas because it houses the most beautiful and unique Deity of Sri Shyamsundar, that manifested from Srimati Radharani’s heart. All the prominent acharyas of Gaudiya Vaishnava cult used to visit this divine temple to have darshan of His Lordship, Sri Shyamsundar. On having daily darshan of this transcendental Deity, Srila Jiva Gosvami, Sri Gopala Bhatta Gosvami, Srila Lokanath Gosvami and Sri Bhugarbha Gosvami etc. used to inundate deep in an ocean of ecstasy.

Srila Raghunath Dasa Gosvami and Srila Krishna Dasa Kaviraja Gosvami, who would otherwise never leave Sri Radha Kunda, also started visiting Vrindavan for the darshan of Sri Shyamsundar, despite their old age and physical problems. Srila Baladeva Vidyabhusana spent most of his time in Vrindavana in the service of the Deity. Even the recent Gaudiya Vaishnava Acharyas, like Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura used to forget themselves on having transcendental vision of the Deities. Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, founder acharya of ISKCON, used to shed tears on having darshan of the Deity.

Sri Shyamananda prabhu was personally graced by Srimati Radharani. She gave him a nupur tilak of the shape of Her lotus foot and the transcendental and divine Deity of Sri Shyamsundar.

(2) Right-side: SRI SRI LALA-LALEE (also known as ‘small Sri Sri Radha-Shyamsundar’)

Srimati Radharani Ji had gifted this divine Deity of Sri Shyam Sunder Ji (Lala Ji) manifested from Her lotus heart, to Sri Shyamananda Prabhu for worship and service, on the Vasanta Panchami day of year 1578. King of Bharatpur found a self-manifested Deity of Srimati Radharani (Lalee Ji) among the invaluable gems available in his treasury. He came to the grove of Shyamananda Prabhu in Sridham Vrindavana and performed Her marriage with Sri Shyam Sundar Ji. King also got constructed a magnificent temple for the divine couple, and Lala-Lalee Ji shifted to this temple from the underground worship hut of Shyamananda Prabhu.

(3) Left-side: SRI SRI RADHA-KUNJABIHARI

They were found in Nandagram by Sri Brajanandand Dev. After his disappearance, these Deities were brought to Vrindavana by Srila Baladeva Vidyabhusana and adorned in Sri Sri Radha-Shyamsundar Temple. Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder-acarya of ISKCON, mentions dedication of ‘Bhagavad-Gita As It Is’ to Srila Baladeva Vidyabhusana who presented Govinda-bhasya commentary on Vedanta philosophy.
