On February 25th, Mendoza, Argentina, held its annual “Blessing of the Fruits” festival, thanking God for a bountiful harvest. The cultural event, which has been going on since the 1930s, included religious leaders from different traditions who each contributed to the program. Baladeva Das, ISKCON’s Regional Director of Communications in Latin America, beautifully chanted the Panca-tattva and Hare Krsna mantras and blew a conch shell for the estimated 15,000 people who were gathered at the festival.

“This is a historically Christian festival, but recently organizers have been inviting all the religious traditions that make up Mendoza society,” said Baladeva Das, “ISKCON is present there like all other religions and had a small additional role in the part where auspiciousness is invoked.” In addition to the thousands who participated in person, the celebration was broadcast live on public television to 45 million viewers.

The annual religious ceremony was officiated by the Archbishop of Mendoza and attended by the Province’s governor, other provincial and municipal authorities, and ambassadors.

By Sunanda Das

This month, on February 29, all Gaudiya Vaishnavas worldwide will celebrate the most auspicious 150th Appearance Anniversary of the Founder-Acharya of the Gaudiya Math, and spiritual master of ISKCON Founder-Acharya, His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada: His Divine Grace Ashtotarashata Sri Srimad Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Prabhupada.

We cannot imagine our eternal good fortune for having come in touch with the movement created by Srila Saraswati Thakur over one century ago, for without him, we would have never come in touch with our most merciful Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and his followers. And those who come after will carry the same parampara torch of prema bhakti as freely delivered by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu to generations hereafter.

The purpose of this article is not for extensive glorification and appreciation of Srila Saraswati Thakur. That will be done on his Vyasa-puja day celebrations in ISKCON and Gaudiya Math temples throughout the world. Our purpose here is to inform the reader of the related celebrations at ISKCON Mayapur which will precede the historic opening of the Nrsimhadeva Wing in the TOVP on March 2, to be offered to Srila Saraswati Thakur and Srila Prabhupada at that time for their divine pleasure.

The Grand 150th Vyasa-puja celebration on February 29 is being organized by the Saraswata Gaudiya Vaishnava Association, an initiative of the Bhaktivedanta Swami Charity Trust that strives to bring together Sarasvata Gaudiya Vaishnavas, regardless of their institutional affiliations, for the pleasure of Srila Saraswati Thakur Prabhupada.

The festival will consist of glorifications of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati by ISKCON leaders and members of the Saraswata Gaudiya Vaishnava Association, pushpanjali, maha arati, kirtan and a feast in honor of His Divine Grace. However, a major event will be the offering of a unique exhibit named, Revolutionary Acharya Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupada by the Kolkata-based Bhaktivedanta Research Center.

The exhibit will showcase the life of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupada, from his appearance to his disappearance. It takes one through his rise to becoming a world acharya and preacher, the innumerable contributions he made to modern Gaudiya Vaishnavism, his extensive travels, the installation of the footprints of Mahaprabhu in eight locations, his theistic spiritual exhibitions held in various places of India, his prolific writing and publishing of innumerable books and articles, culminating in the opening of 64 maths throughout India.

Read more: https://iskconnews.org/150th-vyasa-puja-celebration-of-srila-bhaktisiddhanta-saraswati-tovp-nrsimha-wing-opening/

A Combination Of Mercy And Nectar Was The Mood Of The Celebration!https://iskcondesiretree.com/profiles/blogs/a-combination-of-mercy-and-nectar-was-the-mood-of-the-celebration2024-02-26T13:04:19.000Z2024-02-26T13:04:19.000ZISKCON Desire Treehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/members/iskcon_desire_tree

It was not just double mercy for many, but a rare fortune! The deities were both dressed out of this world; Srimati Radharani and Her gopis were indeed at work, making such a special arrangement for the occasion by entering into the minds of the dressers. How can that not be? Lord Nitai was looking extremely sophisticated and smiling so brightly. You can tell that that smile was not ordinary; He was in fact pleased with the care taken to elaborately make such a beautiful, heartfelt endeavor to please him. And for sure, Lord Nitai was pleased because He is very merciful. One doesn’t have to bring the mountains to Lord Nitai before He becomes pleased; because He is Bhakta-vatsala, Sri Nityananda is affectionate to His devotees. Therefore, He is always very merciful in our little endeavor! Jai Nitai Gaura!

Now in Sri Mayapur Dham, for every step you take, you must purse to make a dandavat. What does this mean?
Official Statement from ISKCON Communications Ministry, January 15, 2024

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) will join in the global celebration of the honor given to Lord Sri Rama via the inauguration of the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Northern India, on January 22, 2024.

ISKCON temples in India will participate in a special month-long celebration in Ayodhya, the birthplace of Rama, and an historically significant pilgrimage site for Hindus and others.

During the celebration, ISKCON plans to feed 10,000 pilgrims daily, and hold festivals promoting the chanting of God’s names (especially “Hare Krishna” and “Hare Rama”) throughout the holy pilgrimage town. ISKCON will also set up a medical camp and distribute large quantities of spiritual literatures.

Many of ISKCON’s 800 temple communities around the world will also participate in the festivities in various ways—from live telecasts of the Ayodhya inauguration, offerings of sacred lamps, special worship services, extended kirtan (musical chanting) ceremonies, and other events.

Lord Rama is the hero of the well-known epic “Ramayana.” Written by the sage Valmiki, the Ramayana contains nearly 24,000 verses. The Ramayana epic is revered in cultures around the world—including Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Philippines, and more—and celebrated through traditional and contemporary art, dance, drama, and music.

“We hope that this inaugural festival marking the legacy of Sri Rama and His teachings on dharma, righteousness, spiritual truth, and morality will inspire people around the world to practice selfless, compassionate acts for the benefit of all people and our entire planet,” said Anuttama Dasa, Minister of ISKCON Communications.

ISKCON is a global Vaishnava Hindu organisation founded in 1965 in New York City by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. ISKCON promotes the non-sectarian principles of mercy, truthfulness, compassion, and austerity (self-discipline) and seeks to aid in awakening love of God among all people. ISKCON teaches that chanting the names of God, as they are understood in the world’s great religious traditions, will promote peace, cooperation, and spiritual happiness throughout the world.

Source: https://iskconnews.org/iskcon-joins-in-celebration-of-the-ayodhya-temple-opening-in-india/

Three Grand Ratha Yatra Celebration in Jhenaidah, Bangladeshhttps://iskcondesiretree.com/profiles/blogs/three-grand-ratha-yatra-celebration-in-jhenaidah-bangladesh2023-06-27T14:05:18.000Z2023-06-27T14:05:18.000ZISKCON Desire Treehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/members/iskcon_desire_tree

On the 20th of June, 2023, the city of Jhenaidah in Bangladesh celebrated the three grand Ratha Yatra, a vibrant and significant event in the Gaudiya Vaishnavism tradition.

Rath Yatra, the grand procession of Lord Jagannath, is a momentous spiritual event celebrated annually in the city of Jhenaidah, Bangladesh. Jhenaidah District, located in southwestern Bangladesh as part of the Khulna Division, holds special significance in the Gaudiya Vaishnavism tradition due to its connections with renowned spiritual personalities.

The birthplace of Srila Loknath Goswami, a prominent associate of Caitanya Mahaprabhu, is situated in Jhenaidah’s Talkhari village. The descendants of Srila Loknath Goswami’s younger brother, Pragalabh, still reside in Talkhari, preserving the spiritual heritage of the area. Additionally, during the British era, Jhenaidah had the privilege of hosting Thakur Bhaktivinod, a revered spiritual figure and judge. The visit of Caitanya Mahaprabhu to Jhenaidah further solidified the deep connection between the city and Gaudiya Vaishnavism.

The Rath Yatra celebration in Jhenaidah city is jointly organized by the Shri Shri Jagannath Temple, Bujitala, Vedic City, and the Central Temple of Jhenaidah District. These temples attract thousands of devotees from different neighborhoods of the city. The event is led by the esteemed spiritual guidance of HH Subhag Swami.

The disciples of HH Subhag Swami, led by HG Bhaktiratna das, along with approximately 15 full-time Brahmacari devotees, are diligently preparing for the grand Rath Yatra celebration. They are making splendid arrangements, ensuring every detail is taken care of to create a memorable and spiritually enriching experience for all participants.

Srila Prabhupada showed that no other material endeavors to achieve unity among the people of the world would be as effective as the festival of carts. Spiritual activities like Ratha-yatra would do a lot in creating unity by bringing all under the shelter of Lord Jagannatha.

The inauguration of the Rath Yatra involves the presence of esteemed local dignitaries, including Mayor Mr.saidul korim Mintu and Chairman of the Hindu-Buddhist Council, Babu Narayan Chandra Biswas. Political and Hindu community leaders, as well as officers-in-charge of the local police station, also attend the inauguration of the chariot procession.

The procession itself is inaugurated by several other political figures and Hindu leaders. Prominent attendees include the Chairman of the Bangladesh Puja Celebration Committee, the General Editor of the Bangladesh Awami League District Central Committee, and the Chairman of the District Council, Babu Konok Kanti Das. The vibrant procession comprises approximately five to six thousand devotees from different neighborhoods of Jhenaidah city. Prasad (holy offering) is distributed among the devotees. The grand procession commences at Baroari Mandir (temple) and culminates at Masir Bari Central Mandir (temple). The chanting of Lord Jagannath’s eternal glory by thousands of devotees fills the entire city of Jhenaidah, heightening their enthusiasm and devotion.

The procession commences from Baroari Mandir, also known as the Twelve-pillared Temple, and concludes at the Madan Mohan Mandir in “Masir Bari” Central Temple.

Devotees enthusiastically participate in the procession, fervently chanting the sacred names of Lord Jagannath, such as “Jay Jagannath,” and the Hare Krishna Mahamantra. The reverberating sounds fill the atmosphere with a profound spiritual energy. People dance with such joy and abandon that it seems as if they are leaping towards the heavens. The rhythmic beats of the Mridanga and Kartal instruments compel everyone to sway and move, expressing their deep devotion.

Since the morning, the distribution of Prasadam, sacred food offered to the Lord, had been ongoing. Despite heavy rains prior to the commencement of the Ratha Yatra, thousands of volunteers wearing identical Genji attire appeared like divine beings. These garments were later distributed among the devotees as well, symbolizing unity and shared devotion.

The Rath Yatra tradition originated in Puri, where millions of people gather annually to witness the grand procession. Thanks to the efforts of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder of ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness), the celebration of Lord Jagannath’s Rath Yatra has expanded to cities and countries worldwide. Through his endeavors, countless souls across the globe have received the grace and mercy of Lord Jagannath.

We are delighted to inform you that the devotees of Jhenaidah successfully organized three Similar Ratha Yatra festivals in Jhenaidah City, Bhujitala Village, and Harinikunda. With the blessings of HH Subhag Swami and Srila Prabhupada, these festivals were a great success.

HG Maniram Prabhu played a key role as the main leader in Bhujitala Village, while HG KarunaSagar Prabhu led the festivities in Harinikunda. Prasadam distribution was carried out extensively in all three locations, adding to the joyous atmosphere.

Currently, the festivities continue for nine days, featuring stage dramas, Harikatha, and Prasadam distribution. These activities serve as a wonderful platform for devotees and the local community to come together, celebrate, and deepen their spiritual connection.

Congratulations once again on the successful organization of these Ratha Yatra festivals. May the remaining days be filled with blissful celebrations, enlightening discourses, and the sharing of sacred Prasadam.

The Rath Yatra in Jhenaidah, along with similar celebrations in various parts of the world, offers devotees an opportunity to deepen their devotion to Lord Jagannath and seek His blessings and divine audience. It serves as a reminder of the rich spiritual heritage of Jhenaidah and the profound impact of Lord Jagannath’s mercy on devotees worldwide.

Source: http://www.dandavats.com/?p=109615

Gita Jayanti Celebration Review In Mayapurhttps://iskcondesiretree.com/profiles/blogs/gita-jayanti-celebration-review-in-mayapur2022-12-14T13:15:05.000Z2022-12-14T13:15:05.000ZISKCON Desire Treehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/members/iskcon_desire_tree

“Anyway, print books, distribute profusely, and that will be the best preaching work. What will your three minutes’ preaching do? —but if they buy one book, it may turn their life. So, make this your important task, to print our books…and distribute widely, and that will please my Guru Maharaja. Never mind it takes little time to make progress, our process is slow but sure, and we are confident that if we continue in this way, we shall go one day back to home, back to Godhead.”

– Srila Prabhupada in a letter to Bhagavan das, Vrindaban, 5 November, 1972

Couple of days ago we celebrated the Gita Jayanti Festival, pandals were set up in Vamsi Bhavan area, and in Prabhupad Samadhi area within the campus during the auspicious celebration of Gita Jayanti and to crown it all, we had the opportunity to have HH Jayapataka Swami with us as well as many of his godbrothers and other senior devotees. The festival lasted for 3 days, hosting over thousands of guests and visiting devotees from around the world that recited and participated in the festival, it made the occasion very blissful. During this time, many copies of Srila Prabhupada’s Bhagavad Gita As It Is were distributed to the visiting pilgrims. This distribution is a combined effort of many of the Mayapur community devotees, as well as some visiting devotees from around the world.

So, today is the day of the advent of Bhagavad-gītā, Bhagavad-gītā jayantī. On this tithi 5,000 years ago Śrī Kṛṣṇa, on the battlefield of Kurukṣetra spoke the Bhagavad-gītā. Bhagavad-gītā was most appropriate 5,000 years ago and it is still appropriate today. The subject matter, the truth that is given there is eternal. In the 6th chapter of the Bhagavad-gītā, the yoga process is given. Today’s class reading from the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is on the yoga system. But Arjuna had said that it is not possible for me to perform this aṣṭāṅga-yoga. Then Lord Kṛṣṇa said, alright, you are already practicing bhakti-yoga, that is the best yoga.

Every Bhagavad-gītā chapter has a particular glory. In the first chapter there is a story there was a bullock, he was overloaded, by his master, and not given water. So, he fainted, and foam came from his mouth. Seeing this situation, one woman gave half of the result of her piety, her good activities to the bullock. Then the bullock died and in the next birth took birth as a brāhmaṇa. So, he somehow knew that this lady gave him half of her good karma. So, he went to her house and knocked on her door. She answered the door and saw this 9-year-old boy standing and she said, “Yes?” The child said, “You don’t recognize me, but I am that bullock for whom you gave half of the results your good karma. So, I wanted to talk with you”. “Please come in, please come in”, she said. He said, “Normally people don’t give their good karma away, why did you give your good karma to me? What were you thinking? You have so much good karma, where do you get them from?” The lady said, “that every day I read the first chapter of the Bhagavad-gītā. So, with that I have a lot of good karma.” So, reading Bhagavad-gītā gives good karma and gives kṛṣṇa-bhakti. Kṛṣṇa-bhakti is invaluable. Through the Bhagavad-gītā we can get kṛṣṇa-bhakti, it cannot be got ordinarily. By reading the Bhagavad-gītā, and avoiding doing any forbidden things, one can get pure bhakti.

So today is the day Bhagavad-gītā was spoken. Therefore, we especially worship the Bhagavad-gītā today. Actually, Bhagavad-gītā is not different from Kṛṣṇa because it was spoken by Kṛṣṇa. This way, if we read Bhagavad-gītā every day – yesterday I gave Bhakti-śāstrī degrees to so many devotees who had nicely studied the Bhagavad-gītā. I am very grateful that in this way Bhagavad-gītā is being taught. Śrīla Prabhupāda’s, Bhagavad-gītā As It Is, commentary is a direct instruction, and I hope that everyone will read and get a copy of the Bhagavad-gītā As It Is. Śrīla Prabhupāda in his lectures, he would frequently quote Bhagavad-gītā. So, we hope that we will have many paṇḍitas on Bhagavad-gītā. Any questions?

Premāñjana dāsa: Generally, Gītā-jayantī takes place on Ekādaśī day, but this year we see that it is on Daśamī, is there any reason? I would like to know.

Jayapatākā Swami: I was thinking that normally on Ekādaśī we have Śrīla Prabhupāda lecture. This year, the Gītā-jayantī, maybe it was on Daśamī, so that I could give a lecture! But I also don’t know the particular answer to why. We know that the Gītā was spoken on Ekādaśī. I don’t know, the astrologers, and astronomers can say why it happened today. Maybe because today is Ekādaśī and tomorrow is Mahā-dvādaśī, maybe that is why.

Kesavi devī dāsī: Tomorrow we are celebrating Bhakti-śāstrī certificates’ giving ceremony for Japanese devotees. Please give your blessings for the devotees in Japan. Last time you said you want to facilitate those who cannot read, they can also do Bhakti-śāstrī. My question is, there is one devotee who cannot hear or speak. He is also your disciple. But he can read. If that is pleasing to you, can he be facilitated to do Bhakti-śāstrī? He is willing to take the Bhakti-śāstrī. But the śloka test how to do that? If you can suggest?

Jayapatākā Swami: Sure. This is ultimately up to the Board of Examination. But I would think if he can write some ślokas down that would be alright. But also, you can ask the Board of Examination what to do in his case.

So, His Holiness Bhakti Vijaya Bhāgavata Swami asked me to finish early because some of the people who have bought or sponsored must receive Caitanya-caritāmṛta.

Braja Vilāsa dāsa: Thank you so very much for the wonderful class. I am asking this que for all those devotees who are assembled here and who forgot to bring the Bhagavad-gītā and have the Bhagavad-gītā. I have a question on behalf of them. My question is how auspicious is it today to get the new Bhagavad-gītā from saṅkīrtana department and read here? Our His Holiness Bhakti Vijaya Bhāgavata Mahārāja and Gaura Dhāma Prabhu are here ready to give the Bhagavad-gītās. I wanted to hear from you, your opinion.

Jayapatākā Swami: Bhagavad-gītā, to receive the Bhagavad-gītā on the Gītā-jayantī day is very, very auspicious.

We also want to thank Lakṣmī Govinda for the Gītā Study Course and spreading the Gītā-jñāna around. Śrīla Prabhupāda also wrote the Bhagavad-gītā in Bengali poetry as Gītār-gān. While you are reading the āhutis here, someone can be singing the Gītār-gān in the temple. Just as in Hindi they sing the Rāmacarita-manas, in Bengali they can sing the Gītār-gān. Haribol! – HH Jayapataka Swami 03 Dec 2022

In the Sri Mayapur International School, there is also a Gita Jayanti festival, where all the students and teachers gather and recite the Bhagavad Gita. Students from the Bhaktivendanta Gita Academy also organized a huge Gita Jayanti festival. They go for mangala arati, then bathe in the Ganga before going to the festival pandal. A beautifully decorated yajna kunda is set up, and oblations are offered into the fire during the recitation of the Sanskrit verses of the Bhagavad Gita. On average, over 7000 thousand devotees gather in one place to recite the Bhagavad Gita in unison. The atmosphere is surcharged. After the recitation of the Gita, a delicious feast was served.

"When I was 12 years old, I started chanting Hare Krishna. I was wondering where I could find spiritual recordings. LOK.MEDIA today answers that question for millions of spiritual seekers all over the world. Guided by His Holiness Lokanath Swami Maharaja, a dear disciple of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, LOK.MEDIA strives to serve the world by providing bonafide spiritual content.

Powered by our new headquarters LOK.STUDIO, in the holy land of Sridham Pandharpur, in Maharashtra, India, LOK.MEDIA seeks to surcharge the cosmos with spiritual sound vibrations. The most important content we carry is the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra – “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare”.

Why is this mantra important? Because by chanting this mantra, we will come to realize our true spiritual identity, beyond flesh and bone. We will realize our eternality as spirit souls. We will become ever-increasingly blissful in our knowledge that we are all members of the same loving family. Lord Krishna is our father – the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

As members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, we strive to share the blessings we have received with others. We are a united family of artists, musicians, website designers, sound engineers, and sages. Coming together with a united common goal, we strive to serve the world by spreading spiritual vibrations far and wide. Share the good vibes and become a part of our ever-increasing family.

Srila Prabhupada, the founder of the International Society for Krishna consciousness tells a story. There was a lame man and a blind man. They both wanted to travel to the holy land of Puri, but how to travel? “Just get on my shoulders,” said the blind man to the lame man. The lame man jumped up on the blind man’s shoulders. The blind man began to walk, being directed by the lame man. Together they happily reached the holy land of Puri. The moral of the story is that Western Technology is powerful, yet often misused to cause injury and suffering to others. When that same technology is used to share spiritual wisdom for the benefit of all, everyone becomes prosperous. In this way, LOK.MEDIA strives to employ the phenomenal potency of modern media to share spiritual vibrations for the benefit of all under the guidance of the most elevated of sages.

Read more: https://iskconnews.org/ekalavya-das-sannyasa-celebration-planned-for-gaura-purnima,7734/

We walked the trails, or rather "crunched" along, over the surface of icy snow. We made our noise and made it clear, with the sound of our footsteps, that we were present. There could not be louder footsteps even if we tried.

The "we" referred to are the Patel clan, from Muskoka. A dozen of us had arranged for a purely outdoor event, in a separated formation, simply through walking and celebrating.

What was the celebration all about?

Well, in early December, I asked the group from what is known as "cottage country," if they could participate in the book marathon, more particularly in the distribution of Bhagavad-gitas in their community. The goal set was for three hundred Gitas to be sponsored and distributed during the month of December in 2020.

The happy group, that was so driven to get out the mercy of Krishna's divine words, reported to me that they reached the grand total of fifteen hundred. It was an occasion for cheers! Instead of popping bottles of champagne our approach to success of going over the goal was via a walking party.

Just imagine that, taking in a piece of nature and moving through it as a way of merry-making? Well, it was done and I admire them because they are a united group and they exude a strong sense of community. Wait till Covid is over and then there may be more intense celebration, such as soul-touching

kirtan - chanting sessions. For now it took the shape of walking and making the crunching sound under the feet.

Source: http://thewalkingmonk.blogspot.com/2021/01/monday-january-4-2021.html

Govardhan Puja Celebrations at ISKCON Mayapurhttps://iskcondesiretree.com/profiles/blogs/govardhan-puja-celebrations-at-iskcon-mayapur2020-11-17T12:59:26.000Z2020-11-17T12:59:26.000ZISKCON Desire Treehttps://iskcondesiretree.com/members/iskcon_desire_tree

Darshan-Arati which all devotees were eagerly waiting for took place in no time just after Bhagavatam class at 8am, the Deities were glowing and full of glory as always, smiling shining and pouring out their mercy.

Devotees cautiously took turns, carefully observing covid protocols while going around Govardhana hill that was backed up with an ecstatic kirtan, the atmosphere was indeed glorious.

Abhishek started at exactly 11am and lasted for 45min, devotees were all enormously submerged in the abhishek and it came to conclusion with the glorious Sahasra Dala abhishek (Transcendental Shower). Abhishek was quickly followed by Annakut bhoga offering and Maha Arati.

Once, when the elder people of Braj including Nanda Maharaj were planning for the Puja of Lord Indra, Shri Krishna, a child then, questioned them as to why they were doing so. Nanda Maharaj explained to Krishna that this was done every year to please Lord Indra so that he continued to grace the people of Braj by providing rain as and when required. But little Krishna debated that they were farmers and they should only do their duty, he also explained to his father saying we are Vaishya and we don’t depend on Indra, Indra’s rain falls on the sea and there is so much water on the sea, they don’t do any worship to Indra but still it rains on the sea, so you don’t need to worship Indra to get rain, you just simply have to do you work by concentrating on farming and protecting the cattle, rather than performing pujas or conduct sacrifices like this for any natural phenomenon. Little Krishna further said that what is best to be done is to worship the cows, brahmanas who are the representatives of the Lord and the Govardhan Hill. We should worship the Govardhan Hill. Nanda Maharaj who has been listening finally agreed but said to Krishna, Of course let us offer both poojas but Krishna refused to this saying no no no we don’t have all that time, we should prepare to worship Govardhan Hill with all you have kept for Indra and even more. In this way the Inhabitants of Vrindavan were convinced and Govardhan puja took place, with lots of different offerings, sweets, yogurts etc.

Furious with the inhabitants of Braj for listening to the little child Krishna and worshipping the Govardhan Hill instead of him, lndra, the King of Heaven, decided to punish them by sending terrible rain clouds to flood the land of Vrindavan. Calling the Samavartaka clouds of devastation, lndra ordered them to lash upon Vrindavan with torrents of rain and thunderstorms and cause extensive floods that would destroy the livelihood of the inhabitants.

Seeing this, the inhabitants of Vrindavan became disturbed and frightened, so they approached Krishna for help.
Krishna, who understood the situation perfectly well, lifted the entire Govardhan Hill at once with His left hand, and held it up like an umbrella. One by one all the inhabitants of Vrindavan, along with their cows and other household possessions, took shelter under Govardhan Hill. For seven days they stayed under the hill, safe from the terrible rains and surprisingly undisturbed by hunger or thirst. They were also astounded to see the huge Govardhan Hill resting perfectly balanced on Krishna’s little finger.

As we all know, one of the sole purposes of the Govardhan Leela was to take away the pride of Indra, because as the King of heaven Indra has been very proud and arrogant and so he was thinking he has a right to the worship performed by the inhabitants of Braj…

As the appearance of Lord Balarama purpose is to prepare the grounds for auspicious appearance of Lord Krishna, similarly Balarama Jayanthi marks the beginning another exciting festival month that willextend upto Radhastami. Celebrating the occassion, we had special lecture by HH Jayapataka swami, Balaram Salagram abhishek & arthi at noon and in the evening, the famous honey pot breaking ceremony and offering of Varuni drink to Lord Balarama. A short but a very sweet intimate festival of Sri Baladeva abhishek was held at Rajapur Jagannath Mandir.

The day being the last day of Jhulan yatra, we had colorful Jhulan festival with flower shower to Sri Sri Radha Madhava in the evening.

“We will specially pray on this day of Balarama Purnima, because Lord Balarama is the original spiritual master, the Adi Guru. So may He have special blessings and mercy on us, on this Balarama Purnima. So we are very happy to be observing the Balarama Purnima in Mayapur. And, as Nityananda Prabhu, He had many pastimes in Navadvipa. So, depending on the different pastimes of Krsna, He would take a role that was appropriate for the lila. So in Vrndavana when Krsna was doing go raksha, Balarama was doing krishi. In Mathura and Dwaraka, Krsna and Balarama were acting as Ksatriyas, so Lord Balarama He did those pastimes. Please pray that may Lord Balarama have His mercy on us.
