Glimpses of the Lotus Feet of Srila Prabhupada

Glimpses of the Lotus Feet of Srila Prabhupada

by His Divine Grace Om Visnupad

Srila Bhakti Promod Puri Goswami

Once Srila (Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura) Prabhupada was viewing the Deities of Sri-Sri Guru Gauranga-Gandharvika-Giridhari at the Sri Caitanya Math, standing on the front porch of the temple. The door of that temple is not very wide and Srila Prabhupada did not have his glasses on.

Standing next to him was one of his dear disciples. The disciple thought… Continue

Prabhupada lecture notes

Yesterday I heard Prabhupada give a lecture on Srimad-Bhagavatam 3.26.26 on January 3, 1975, in Mumbai. The false ego in the material world is divided into three according to the modes of material nature. Persons in the mode of goodness see this material world as it is. Those in the modes of passion are making plans without any aim of life. Those in the modes of ignorance are like animals.… Continue

Twenty Beads of Causeless Mercy

By Indradyumna Swami

When I arrived at my residence in Vrindavan-dhama, the strain of eleven months of traveling and preaching caught up with me, and I was unable to go outside for two weeks. I spent the time resting, chanting extra rounds, and reading. One evening I decided that the next morning I would finally go out to visit some temples.

“There are over five thousand temples in Vrindavan,” I thought, “but even… Continue

Puri parikrama

Dear devotees,

Please accept my best wishes. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I haven’t written since arriving in Mumbai for the GBC meetings about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I’m sorry about that.

The meetings were basically nice. Our movement now has a Chief Executive Officer, Ramai Maharaja, who will be seeing that all our resolutions and decisions are followed up on. In the GBC Body many good decisions are made, but due to the pressing duties of all the GBC members,… Continue

Celebrating 40 years of ISKCON in London

Radha Mohan Das : It has been forty years since ISKCON made its first mark on the streets of London. The unmistakable sounds of cymbals, saffron and shaven heads charmed and startled Oxford Street in London’s West End, reaching the Evening Standard with the headline “Hare Krishna Startles London”. Nowadays ISKCON is woven to the fabric of London life yet still parades of devotees sharing the Holy Names with shoppers, revelers, business people and international tourists is very… Continue

Why Chant Hare Krishna?

By Jayadvaita Swami

Here’s a page full of reasons. I’ll spare you the footnotes, but each reason is fully upheld by evidence from Vedic writings likeBhagavad-gita, the Upanisads, and the Puranas.

· Chanting Hare Krishna awakens love of God.

· Chanting Hare Krishna brings liberation as a side benefit along the way.

· When you chant Hare Krishna, you automatically develop knowledge and detachment.

· Chanting Hare Krishna gets you out… Continue

A Krishna Conscious Response to Terrorism

Whenever we hear of a sensational act of terrorism somewhere in the world, especially when it involves the random killing and maiming of innocent people, we ask, “Why?” And when a particular terrorist group comes forward and claims credit for some atrocity, we ask the same question, this time more deeply -- “Why? Why do they hate so much? What can be done to stop them?”

The experts say to explain, what to speak of to remedy, terrorism is difficult, because it is such a complex and… Continue

Keeping my Mind on the MANTRA

During Japa today I struggled with keeping my mind from wandering here, there and everywhere...it's a daily struggle and I usually close my eyes, cup my hand to my ear (so I can hear properly) and just focus on hearing the Mantra.

Sometimes this doesn't work though, so I use my last weapon to defeat the mind....reading the mantra whilst I chant. This works everytime and keeps my mind right on the Mantra...it's like a big stick or a slipper, beating the mind into submission "Stay on… Continue

Good Chanting Produces More Good Chanting

How do I know I have chanted good rounds? One of the best indicators for me is that when I finish my rounds I want to keep chanting because I am getting such a nice taste.

If I am relieved to put my bead bag down after my last round, that's an indicator that my chanting is not being done properly.

Good chanting always produces a taste to chant more. Prabhupada said sixteen rounds is the minimum; constant chanting is the goal.

sri sri Gaura Nitai ki jai

We are developing

“We are developing”, this is what in general, modern youth say and think that people abroad are highly developed. Yes, they are developed, but only in subjects of matter. They are better than us in manipulating the matter and produce artificial gadgets without which also, we can live very peacefully.

We have two options: Either stick with natural, spiritual, pleasing (to soul), highly healthy, hygienic and meaningful Vedic culture of Bharat-varsha or try to imitate the western… Continue

Letter from Yamaraja

Different people are afraid of different things in life and one person's

object of fear is not an object of fear for another person. However in

general, fear of death is common to all. Some people may boast that they are

not scared of death. However when they get some fatal disease which paralyse

them or in case of dangers, the fear of death will be clearly visible in

their eyes. There is no material solution to this attack of Yamaraj and his

punishments after… Continue

The Man in the Antique Shop (a short story)

My acquaintance with him, if it can be called that, began a year ago.

After being laid off from my well-paying job in York, I had taken up a job in a factory in Manchester, fifty miles from my home. The job was tasteless, but at least it put some food on the table. My wife had cleaned me out after the divorce and my resources were meagre.

Every evening after work, my factory bus would leave me at this bus-stop. Here, I… Continue
