@Radha Rasamayi DD,
I would prefer a concise explanation here (should be brief and yet it should cover all the various rupas and their duties). I would have picked up all the volumes if i had the time, but the truth is, i don't.
In the last article (Ch.8 Avataras) its mentioned that Maha Vishnu is the first Purusha incarnation. Is this maha vishnu or first purusha the same as the 'cosmic man/virat purusha' who happens to have the whole creation within his body? The cosmic man or virat purusha that i'm talking about has the devas dwelling in his head or chest region, then humans or bhuloka residing in his waist region and asuras in his lower regions.
So people in gaudia sampradia don't believe in that cosmic virat purisha then?
You seem to have enough time to arrive at such wrong and generalizing rhetorics about Gaudiya Sampradiaya
Perhaps it is better spent if used in learning from authentic scriptures.
Yeah right. As if people before the 1950s were going through fake scriptures and then the Hare Krishnas came along, and the birth of authentic scriptures took place on their arrival. Thanks for saving us. lol
You can thank Srila Prabhupada.
LORD KRISHNA exists in three principal forms (Rupas)
2- Tad-Ekatma-Rupa, and
Svayam- As the word suggest it means Original, The supreme personality himself, the KRISHNA who has no origin, who is the source and sum of everything in the entire existence. In this form Krishna is the supreme controller with eternal spiritual body who is full of bliss and knowledge. Krishna has highest number of Gunas (Qualities) with 64 followed by Sri Hari Vishnu with 60 and Lord Shiva 55.
The 4 distinctive unique qualities are as follows :
(61) He is the performer of wonderful varieties of pastimes (especially His childhood pastimes).
(62) He is surrounded by devotees endowed with wonderful love of Godhead.
(63) He can attract all living entities all over the universes by playing on His flute.
(64) He has a wonderful excellence of beauty which cannot be rivaled anywhere in the creation
The following verse describes the Svayam rupa -
Meaning - There is nothing superior to Govinda. He is the ultimate source and the cause of all causes. This is also confirmed in the Bhagavad-gītā (7.7), where the Lord says, mattaḥ parataraṁ nānyat: "There is no truth superior to Me."
Tad-Ekatma-Rupa -The Tad-ekātma-Rūpa forms exist simultaneously with the Svayaṁ-Rūpa form and are nondifferent. At the same time, their bodily features and specific activities appear to be different." The tad-ekātma-rūpa forms are divided into two categories—
Svāṁśa - (Expansions of expansions of the svyama form) HDG Srila Prabhupada explains in CC Madhya-lila 20.185 Purport: ‘When a form of Krishna is nondifferent from the original form but is less important and exhibits less potency it is called svamsa‘. Svamsa forms include the purusa-avataras and avataras like Matsya, Kurma, Varaha and Nrsimhadeva.
Vilāsa - (Forms that differ in appearance from the svyama-rupa) [CC M.20.174P) Vilasa incarnations are categorised as prabhava and vaibhava (the 24 forms of Vishnu emanating from the catur-vyuha.
You can say everything we experience in this world is created, sustained, or destroyed by one of these forms. The purpose of creation is to provide a learning field where we can awaken to our original relationship with Krishna and rejoin Him in His spiritual creation.
Avesha-rupa - Avesa-rupa refers to ‘empowered forms of the Lord’ ie. the Lord manifesting his energies or qualities through powerful jivas or living entities. Examples of these are Narada, Prithu and Brahma. The avesa-avataras are living entities. The use of the word avatara, therefore, is secondary. Avesha Rupa is further divided into 3 Divisions :-
Bhagavad Avesa (The divine absorption)
Saktya Vesa (Directly Empowered) and
Vibhuti (Indirectly empowered)
One thing to know is even when they are divided or expanded without limit, they are still one and the same. There is no difference between one form and another. That is the absolute nature of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. They are servants of the lord empowered with knowledge and strength. There are unlimited number of Avesa forms.
I hope it helps.
