    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

Onion and garlic is not considered satvik food. It excites our baser instincts. Therefore, our senior acharyas have rejected onion garlic and so do we. To develop satvik qualities, it is important that our food is also satvik. As you  may be knowing, food has an important bearing on the psyche of an individual. Thats why we have to be careful of what we eat. I have heard in Srila Prabhupada lecture that todays generation is the Dogs and Hogs lifestyle. Work hard like dogs and eat anything and everything like hogs. That has to be regulated as per our scriptures.

There are stories which say that onion and garlic is the amrit which went into the mouth of Rahu & Ketu, which didnt go beyond the throat, because of being struck by the sudarshan chakra of the lord. When the head was severed, at that time, the drop of amrit which fell to the ground became onion garlic. Thats why it has so many healing properties, but still smell so awful. Thats why we reject it.

THere are a lot of posts on this topic in the past prabhuji. YOu can go into the Discussion pages and read from there also.

If you have any further questions, pls feel free to ask.

    Haribol,

    YOur servant,
