Why to read Bhagwat Geeta?

The miseries and mishaps of my life brought me to Bhagwat Geeta  In fact there is no other way you take to spirituality without these miseries. Pain of life turned out to be the mercy of Krishna.  After studying the BG, One word which hit my mind was, “Self realization”.

In Maslow’s hierarchy of needs “Self realization” is rated at the top, Bhagwat Geeta directs us towards Self realization. Self realized person enjoys unlimited happiness. For him, there is no need to look for happiness in the outside world. An intelligent person never takes the interest in materialistic pleasures which have the start and the end.

In the Journey of life we witness so many events, mishaps or failures that make us depressed, puts us in acute mental pain that increases negativity and hopelessness among us.  Bhagwat Geeta is the best remedy to over come all such miseries of life. It is the best tranquility pill the mind kind has got.

A Crying face turns into smiling face within no time. Not only is it the biggest stress buster but it is the best remedy for problems like fear, anger, hatred, lust and greed. For devotees these are the biggest hurdles in the path of self realization.

Anger backed by hatred brings about fights amongst the people but when we read Bhagwat Geeta there will not be any such feeling that provokes us to fight. If you are constantly reading Geeta, you will feel sad for the person who is fighting with you or who wants to fight with you because he may have sleepless nights feeling jealous or envious about you but you will always find yourself in happy and cheerful mood.

To Read Bhagwat Geeta means to kill lust (Rapes), greed (Corruption) and anger (Murders) which are causes of all crimes and worries of the world.  These monsters can only be killed by strong spiritual weapon otherwise there is absolutely no way to subdue them. There are classes which teach you the art of living but Bhagwat Geeta teaches you the art of dieing also.

Those who have the demoniac qualities like pride, false ego, harshness and arrogance become entitle to enter in a hell. The 16th chapter of Bhagwat Geeta helps us identify good and the bad qualities in us. Are we having demoniac qualities or we have some transcendental qualities in us?  The Constant reading of Bhagwat Geeta decreases demoniac qualities and increases transcendental qualities and you will know that those who live for the sense gratification actually not only waste their life but also degrade their souls.

Bhagwat Geeta answers all the serious questions of life. You will understand what real knowledge is, what the real ignorance is, what should be the purpose of life, what to eat and what not eat, how to work, how to control your mind and what should be your approach towards your work.

For those souls who have completely surrendered to the lord Shri Krishna, Bhagwat Geeta teaches, how to surrender to the god, how to please the god, why to please the god and what is required to please the god. The faithful reading of god’s word washes all sins of a human being and those who follow it, are blessed with pure devotion of Krishna which is the greatest gift a man can ever get.

Mahatma Gandhi once said” When doubts haunt me, When disappointments stare me in the face, and I see not one ray of hope on the horizon, I turn to Bhagwat Geeta and find a verse to comfort me; and I immediately begin to smile in the midst of overwhelming sorrow. The seven hundred concise verses of Bhagwat Geeta Is the jewel of India’s spiritual wisdom.

  • Hare Krsna Prabhu:

You have summarized it all well for the fallen souls to take up reading Bhagavad Gita As It Is.

You are right when you said that until and unless one is put into miseries (infact 3 types of miseries) no one will inquire, Why me ?

I came to reading BG when I was put into misery and then I was put into happiness materially, that was when I asked why all these things are happening to me ? who am I ? where have I come ? where will I go after death ?  Once I inquired about these, the Lord had arranged to send me a copy of BG As It Is through a thief to my house, where he had left his treasure.  I opened it after 10 years and found Bhagavad Gita As It Is.  When I read, my eyes were filled with tears because all my questions was answered and the Lord had arranged for me to read this 10 years ago, but the material illusion is so strong, it was a hurdle that I took 10 years to jump through.  Now, I am in bliss.

    • Well....5.29.."I am the well wisher of all living entities..n finally my devotee attains unadulterated peace from pangs of material miseries...hari bol..Krishna bada daya may..

  • Well, In the first Canto of Shrimat Bhagwatam We see How Yudhishtira lamented after the battle of Kurukshetra...How arjun cried post Krishna period..If these great souls would lament for the loss of their dear ones...we are completely insignificant..All we can do is, pray krishna in hard times, so that he can give us strength to tolerate....

A person can also transcend the stage of lamentation for dead of dear ones, when he achieves the Paramhamsha stage. In paramhamsha stage the person attain Vaikuntha consciousness even living in this material body. At that time He sees soul only in each body and there is no one closer or dearer to Him other than Krishna, even his wife, child, parents what so ever. So it is possible but for that one need to elevate onself in Paramhamsha stage.

Bhagavad gita is the highest treasure Lord Krishna gifted to the mankind. Without Bhagavad Gita we are like a crow always covered by the dirt. Pondering on Bhagavad gita and Practical implementation makes the crows of this dirty world a Swan, who only takes pleasure in the petals of the lotus situated in a crystal clear water like mirror. Mind become tranquil, heart become sweet as honey, speech becomes like sugar candy. The crow become Paramhansha.
