Why should we surrender ourselves to Spiritual Master?

Hare Krishna, My doubt is Krishna said in Bhagavat Gita Chapter 18 Verse 66 assarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śharaṇaṁ vrajaahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣhayiṣhyāmi mā śhuchaḥMeaning to surrender to only to Krishna and do not fear.So what my doubt is Prabhuji, Krishna has said to surrender only to him, then why should we surrender to Spritual master.Sorry ,If I have asked anything wrong, I just had a doubt.

    Hare Krsna

Krishna has said to surrender only to him, then why should we surrender to Spritual master

Because the illusory potency of lord Sri Krsna is so strongly deluding that even a sincere soul can never know how and if they have surrendered to Krsna or not. Spiritual master can guide if the sincere seeker is properly surrendering to Sri Krsna or not.

Without guidance of spiritual master even a person who considers himself sincere can think themselves to be surrendered or surrendering to Krsna and end up degrading ones life. It is very much possible. Hiranyakasipu/Ravana perfectly knew the philosophy of sankhya, soul supersoul etc, yet could not surrender.

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

The lord has displayed in His pastimes that He can bend rules for His devotees. Like He vowed He will not lift weapon during the Mahabharat war, but He picked up the chariot wheel to attack Bheeshma pitamaha because that was the desire of Pitamaha that Krsna will lift weapon.

Even in Gita, Krsna has mentioned - Kaunteya pratijanihi na me bhaktah pranashyati - Declare O Kaunteya (Arjuna), that My devotee never perishes. Why did He make Arjuna declare - because He never allows devotee's words to go wrong, His own words He can take back for the pleasure of His devotee.

To approach any big man in the material world even today, say Prime Minister, we have to go via his office and ask people who know him personally for appointment or what he would like to eat (in case you are getting opportunity to feed him). Same way, to approach the greatest, beyond the universe, the cause of all causes, one has to approach His bonafide servant.

The lord has Himself said there are 4 paths through which He can be approached - Rudra Sampradaya (led by SHivji), Sri Sampradaya (led by Laksmiji), Nimbarka Sampradaya (led by 4 Kumaras) and Brahma Sampradaya. ISKCON belongs to Brahma Madhva Gaudiya Vaishnav Sampradaya. In each of the sampradayas, the teachings are handed over as it is from guru to disciple, so that the message of God is delivered authentically. That is why we check the parampara of the guru before deciding to follow him.

You have asked nothing wrong - rest assured. This is a very normal question and one should ask before committing to a path. Having committed, one should then surrender.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    Radha Rasamayi DD

  • Thank you so much for your explanation.
  • Hare Krishna prabhuji,
Actually without the mercy of srila prabhupada no one can progress in spiritual path.
Therefore one should surrender to spiritual master and have faith in his words and the process which he gave to us. He is the one who has shown us this path.
Also we are not qualified enough to directly reach to krishna.we first have to reach our spiritual master and surrender unto him,so he can show us the right path and the right way .
    Hare Krishna.
