pamho,

Why not to reveal the secret of devotional service to atheists and non-devotees?

Krishna has mentioned this warning in the Bhagavad Gita.

What are the dangers on this path ?

What is shariraka bhashya and sankhya philosophy ?  Does it help in devotional service ?

  • Chapter 5 Text 6 BG as it is .. Purport.:

There are two classes of sannyasis, or persons in the renounced order of life. The Mayavadi sannyasis are engaged in the study of sankhya philosophy, whereas the Vaisnava sannyasis are engaged in the study of Bhagavatam philosophy, which affords the proper commentary on the Vedanta-sutras. The Mayavadi sannyasis also study the Vedanta-sutras, but use their own commentary, called Sariraka-bhasya, written by Sankaracarya. The students of the Bhagavata school are engaged in devotional service of the Lord, according to pancaratriki regulations, and therefore the Vaisnava sannyasis have multiple engagements in the transcendental service of the Lord. The Vaisnava sannyasis have nothing to do with material activities, and yet they perform various activities in their devotional service to the Lord. But the Mayavadi sannyasis, engaged in the studies of sankhya and Vedanta and speculation, cannot relish transcendental service of the Lord.

Because their studies become very tedious, they sometimes become tired of Brahman speculation, and thus they take shelter of the Bhagavatam without proper understanding. Consequently their study of the Srimad-Bhagavatam becomes troublesome. Dry speculations and impersonal interpretations by artificial means are all useless for the Mayavadi sannyasis. The Vaisnava sannyasis, who are engaged in devotional service, are happy in the discharge of their transcendental duties, and they have the guarantee of ultimate entrance into the kingdom of God.

The Mayavadi sannyasis sometimes fall down from the path of self-realization and again enter into material activities of a philanthropic and altruistic nature, which are nothing but material engagements. Therefore, the conclusion is that those who are engaged in Krsna consciousness are better situated than the sannyasis engaged in simple Brahman speculation, although they too come to Krsna consciousness, after many births.

Prabhupāda: I don't make any compromise. All my speaking is also no compromise. Here is guru, here is Kṛṣṇa, here is God, here is Vedānta. Real version they neglect, and they stick to the rascal's version, Śaṅkara's version, Śārīraka-bhāṣya. All over India, they are reading Śārīraka-bhāṣya.

Hari-śauri: Rāmānujācārya is very well known in India, so why don't they read his commentary?

Prabhupāda: They hate Rāmānujācārya because he's Vaiṣṇava.

Hari-śauri: Because he doesn't allow them to speculate.

Prabhupāda: He is very strict. He is a stubborn enemy of Śaṅkarācārya. All the Vaiṣṇava ācāryas. Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, declare it: māyāvādi-bhāṣya śunile haya sarva-nāśa .. If you hear the interpretation of Māyāvādīs, then you are doomed. You have no hope for spiritual advancement. This is the statement. Māyāvādi-bhāṣya śunile haya sarva-nāśa. Finished, your spiritual life is finished. You can write this also, that Caitanya Mahāprabhu's instruction is strictly to avoid the so-called Vedantists.

This is what  Sila Prabhupada said about Saririka Bhashya commentary on Gita by Aadi Shankaracharya.

    Hare Krishna.

"Never wrestle with a pig. You'll get dirty and the pig enjoys it.", "Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.", "Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience."

When time comes Lord Himselves reveals to them so you need not argue and waste your time, and make them blame an commit vaishnava aparadh when they argue you also might commit some blasphemy of God or they may do vaishnava aparadh so avoid arguement as much as possible.

    Hare Krsna

    What is shariraka bhashya

Sharirika Bhashya is the most bogus or most incorrect interpretation of Vedantasutra. Sharirika Bhasya is the mayavada (mis)interpretation by Adi Shankaracarya. Madhwacarya & Jiva Goswami have destroyed this bogus philofophy for its fallacious interpretation.

    Hare Krsna

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

When Krsna has clearly instructed not to reveal the secret to non devotees, that has to be followed. Period.

Pitfalls of preaching to athiests - you would have seen so many people in this forum itself - come with their own philosophy and use this forum as a platform to preach their theories. This is what happens when one has little knowledge and no faith. They will blaspheme more and commit more offense, making their future very very bleak, for lifetimes. Better to spare them this fate and not tell them until they are conducive to what we have to say.

Don't know about sharirika bhasya. Sankhya philosophy was explained by Kapila Muni to his mother Devahuti. Entire section is there in SB about this. I am sure you would know - if not, please read.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

    Radha Rasamayi DD
