  • hare krishna..

ur question is worth answering. being in krishna consciousness is most sacred thing life for a person. krishna is every where and in every thing, u serve krishna and worship him ,love him ,and with all shradha and saburi u pray to him and chant him.... but dont loose ur identity,be as wat u r and be as wat u want to be.. don care of frnds and society.....being in krishna consciousness doesn't mean suppressing our feelings and desires, u will still be free from all unnecessary thoughts and work.u will be focused on ur goal and it will make u reach u aim in very easy way.....krishna shows the path and walking on that is our decision,he has given that freedom of thinking to us.remember one thing happieness and freedom always come with responsibilities in our life.it is our point of view that in wat way see our life and this world and in wat way we accept....

don worry u r in safe hands of krishna....

hopefully i answered ur question correctly

  • We are not paramhamsa. So forcefully suppressing everything will lead to frustration. Add KC to life and be sincere  , follow regulative principles and be normal to others. True detachment of mind  will come gradually and systematically . Love and serve your parents , family members  and at heart Keep yugal kishore. Be happy and do your prescribed duties and offer the results of your karma to Krishna.

    BG :Chapter 3: Karma-yoga : TEXT 9

Work done as a sacrifice for Viṣṇu has to be performed, otherwise work binds one to this material world. Therefore, O son of Kuntī, perform your prescribed duties for His satisfaction, and in that way you will always remain unattached and free from bondage.

    Hare Krsna Mataji,

WHen we have an exam pending or about to give an exam in the next month, would it not make sense to study or would we rather enjoy - do our own thing and wish the exam away? That same way - the only thing that is sure about life is death - wahtever happens to anyone's life, death is sure to happen. It could be sooner or it coudl be later. So would it not be proper to prepare for the exam called death?

Regarding your friends - what kind of enjoyment you want? We also eat - only prasadam. This means that we get freshly cooked sanctified food which is also tasty. We also dance - in the kirtans and aratis, for the pleasure of the lord and it gives us also immense pleasure and satisfaction. We also sing - the glories of the lord, not some cheap song which cannot be sung in front of elders or parents. We also go out - on parikramas and temple tours with our group. We also celebrate birthdays - wishing that its the last birth for that person. Movies - have you seen even the posters today - they are so cheap and tantallising - I am sure it gives a headache if you watch the whole thing and disturbs the mind.

What I am trying to stay is that we also enjoy our life, only its much more fulfilling and it helps us progress spiritually at the same time. It doesnt have its ocassional heartbreaks and tensions as in normal life. We are not suppressing our feelings or desires, simply dovetailing them in the service of the lord.

People say like this because they have no idea how full of bliss our life is - they are scared to even experience it. Try calling your friends to any of our programs - they will cringe and run away with some excuse or the other. Lord Krsna Himself says taht it takes many many lifetimes to come to this path and out of many many people who do come, very few actually reach the destination.

Dont be bewildered dear. Trust your own instinct and make your own way such that people follow you. No need to follow the herd mentality and do waht everyone else is doing without any thought to right or wrong.

    Your servant,

    Hare Krsna mataji,

My obeisances to all devotees, guru and gauranga.

The living entity doesn’t actually know what is enjoyment or happiness nor does he/she know what is suffering. We are all thinking actual suffering to be happiness. Lets hear to what krsna says about this:

    In Bhagavad-gita (5.22) Krishna says:

    ye hi saṁsparśa-jā bhogā

    duḥkha-yonaya eva te

    ādy-antavantaḥ kaunteya

    na teṣu ramate budhaḥ

An intelligent person does not take part in the sources of misery, which are due to contact with the material senses. O son of Kuntī, such pleasures have a beginning and an end, and so the wise man does not delight in them.

The pleasures that arise from contact between the senses and their objects are in truth the sources of all suffering. Prabhupada writes Material sense pleasures are due to the contact of the material senses, which are all temporary because the body itself is temporary. If one wants to enjoy what’s temporary one can, but does that person have the knowledge that it’s temporary, maybe not. Hence they feel that enjoyment is forever.

If you want to be happy (read eternal happiness), krsna has given you how one can achieve that too. In 5.21, krsna says

    bāhya-sparśeṣv asaktātmā

    vindaty ātmani yat sukham

    sa brahma-yoga-yuktātmā

    sukham akṣayam aśnute

Such a liberated person is not attracted to material sense pleasure but is always in trance, enjoying the pleasure within. In this way the self-realized person enjoys unlimited happiness, for he concentrates on the Supreme.

Prabhupada writes in his purports for the above verse:

A person in brahma-yoga, or Kṛṣṇa consciousness, is so absorbed in the loving service of the Lord that he loses his taste for material sense pleasure altogether. The highest pleasure in terms of matter is sex pleasure. The whole world is moving under its spell, and a materialist cannot work at all without this motivation. But a person engaged in Kṛṣṇa consciousness can work with greater vigor without sex pleasure, which he avoids. That is the test in spiritual realization. Spiritual realization and sex pleasure go ill together. A Kṛṣṇa conscious person is not attracted to any kind of sense pleasure, due to his being a liberated soul.

Yes, we have to perform austerities in order to purify us. After all, krsna is not asking us to stand on one feet for thousands of years to be liberated. He is just asking us to remember Him at each moment of the day. Seeing our sincere effort, krsna will give the intelligence and guide us to reach Him. Please try and avoid people who drag you into material happiness and engage yourself with devotees to attain spiritual happiness. Spiritual happiness is eternal and fulfilling.

Hope my response answered your query mataji.

Feel free to comment or write follow-up questions mataji..

    Chant and be happy.

    Srila prabhupada ki jai..

  • Hare Krishna!

I am not a perfect person. My mind is soiled with all kinds of material propensities of all aspects, yet I find no happiness in anything. Only when I hear the narrations of Srimad Bhagavatam, I feel so satisfied and happy.

Your friends are right when they say they say we cannot enjoy happiness in our life. Well, 'sinful life' would be a better phrase there. As a devotee, you will not drink, smoke, take drugs, indulge in illicit sexual relationships or eat non-vegetarian items. These are the things you are going to basically miss. You may not understand or experience how they would make you feel, but trust me, they will make you feel horrible or "shitty" at the end of the day, or the next morning when you wake up.

Yes, you have to suppress your desires to do all the illicit activities but just look at how this Krishna conscious life is saving you from the dangers those illicit activities pose.

Mataji, looks like your friends have never heard Srimad Bhagavatam or Bhagavad Gita narrations or even read them.  I am not exaggerating about the glories of Bhagavatam but it impacts my mind in such a beautiful, sublime way.

I have similar friends and I get similar association too, but since you understand spirituality one level above them, you must learn how to make sure they do not convince you to forgo Krishna consciousness. Hedonistic life only offers you very temporary happiness.

If you have no time to read Bhagavatam, I recommend you to to listen to the narrations here : https://soundcloud.com/iskconofdc/sets/srimad-bhagavatam-narration

They will only cost you 5-7 mins each chapter. Please do listen.

    • Thanks for sharing the nice site!

  • Material happiness are temporary in all universe and its coming from outside.

Great devotees found that Lord is only source of eternal happiness.

In the association of devotees who singing, dancing and talking about Lord and His past times, person can find ananda which emanating from inside .

Devotees consider dry philosophy which is preached nowadays from elevated places, just waste of time and energy,

because it doesnt waking attraction for the Lord.

Devotees who preach about Lords past times with love and affection consider bhakti above all knowledge,

therefore even candalas, kids, shudras, demons, animals, trees ..can wake up true love for Lord.

Ones when the person taste the real divine nectar, all other tastes become tasteless.

Such nectar of immortality  doesnt flow from the lips of materialists, but  flows only from the lips of such devotee whose heart melt when remembers the Lord.

  • Supressing your desires which is related to this material/mundane world is necessary to keep yourself connected with the spiritual life. Ask twice whether you want the Krishna consciousness or the bodily pleasures. You will get the answer for sure.

  • Think for yourself prabhuji,

Do you think happiness comes from supressing our desires and feelings?

The Buddha taught that attachment is the source of suffering. So from this perspective it is true, happiness can't be obtained without detachment. But is detachment the same thing as supression of our desires and feelings?

In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna teaches us that the greatest form of renunciation (detachment) is service to Krishna. From this perspective, detachment from the material world is not as good as attachment to Krishna.

So the Buddha teaches us one thing, and Krishna teaches us another thing. Which do you want? Deep peace of detachment, or burning eternal love for Krishna? Or something else?

Neither I nor anyone here on these forums, nor your friends, nor your teachers, nor parents, nor loved ones can decide for you what will make you happy.

You have to decide for yourself what makes you happy.
  • Plz someone help me by clearing out dis doubt...
