Yes, you have to do the correct day. Vaishnava calendar printed by ISKCON is not accurate, just like our edited Prabhupada books :))

You have to supplement with a calendar for the local time. In the westcoast, a traditional south Indian temple, Livermore Hindu Temple has an accurate callendar and available online. Not a single mistake in 20 years.

    Hare Krsna Mataji,

    PAMHO.

If your panchang for NewYork said Shivratri is on Monday - 28th and you fasted on 28th, then what is the issue? You have fasted as per the calendar of your area. Dont worry, your fast is noted by Lord Shiva.

Normally a vaishnava may fast on Shivratri thinking of Lord Shiva as the foremost vaishnava and to pray to Shiva to grant devotion. Nothing else.

    Haribol,

    Your servant,

  • Hare Krishna Prabhu ji,

Vaishnavas don't need to do Shivaratri. But if you are having liking for Lord Shiva then you can do it.  But its not a must. If you miss the day. Then wait for next yr.

Don't worry they say even if you do one shivaratri in a life time correctly its enough to go back to Kailash.

    Hare Krishna.
