Respected Devotees, Hare Krishna & dandavat,

I often weed out many unwanted plants while up keeping Sri Tulsi in our home. Each plant is a jeev. Similarly, other devotees may also be doing. Farmers, also weed out lot of unwanted plants almost daily. Will this is not jeev hatya and subjected to consequences?

  • Hare Krishna,

Living entity can not stop acting. It will be doing karma at every moment. To get out of this one should work to please Krishna. You are feeling like you are killing other jivas by removing unwanted plants, but if I flip around your question then you are pleasing Krishna by taking well care of sacred Tulsi ji by removing those unwanted plants.

As Krishna has assured in BG (18.66) that he will deliver you from all sinful reaction.

    aham tvam sarva-papebhyo
    moksayisyami ma sucah

So if you are pleasing Krishna (which you are doing in your act), you should not worry.

    Hare Krsna Prabhuji,

    PAMHO.

Tulsi Maharani is also called bhakti lata beej - she is the seed of the creeper of bhakti. To maintain any creeper, it is important to weed out the unwanted plants, otherwise the main creeper will suffer. That soul which is born as a weed will meet that fate only. If at all it is jeev hatya, then the reaction will be nullified by developing actual bhakti, wth the mercy of the bhakti lata beej.

Even the 10 offenses are described as weeds which hamper the creeper of devotion. That was the first description of the 10 offences that I had heard.

On a different note, what came to my mind when I read your post yesterday was - if only it was as simple to weed out unwanted thoughts and actions that are detrimental to our devotional growth. Maybe when you are pulling out the weeds, you can say a silent prayer to tulsi maharani that I am taking out the weeds for your growth, you take out the weeds from my life for my spiritual growth.

    • Hare Krishna, Mataji, dandavat,

I have noted the point for compliance i.e. to say a prayer to Tulsi maharani that I am taking out the weeds for your growth, you take out the weeds from my life for my spiritual growth.

      Thank you vary much.

If we become healthy after eating medicines but use our life for sense gratification then we will bear reactions ourselves.

But if we surrender to Krishna and chant His Holy Names and dedicate our life for His pleasure then Krishna promises that HE will take care of the reactions.

Sometimes non violence may look like a violence.

For example, father and daughter are there and suddenly murderer comes and tries to rape the girl. So is it ok if father stops back and just looks how his daughter is raped?

    No.

If needed he can even kill that man. So that will be ahimsa.

What to speak of sacred Tulasi tree!

Other grasses hinder Her proper growth so we have to remove them.

In grain fields we remove bad grasses or else they will kill grains.

Because in this world one living entity have to live on the life of another living entity.

    We cannot avoid it completely.

We can try to be careful as like Jadu Bharata was so even with ants.

In every step we commit some sin knowingly or unknowingly. Because of that in previous ages Vedas used to prescribe to human being to perform yagya to 5 personalities:

    to Demigods

    to Ancestors

    some more, i forgot.

But in this age we cannot do even that. Only sacrifice we can do is chanting of the Holy Names. And doing everything for the pleasure of Krishna. If we do that Krishna says that He will take care of reactions.

    Your servant,
