Is the Panca Tattva Mantra to be chanted before before each round?

Hare Krishna

Is the Panca Tattva Mantra supposed to be chanted before each round or just three times before beginning?

one senior devotee from Vrindavan told me few years back to chant Panch Tattva Mantra once before and after every Hare Krishna round (after 108). He also told me to chant Panch Tattva Mantra when we are on Guru bead (mani).

since then I do so.

Hare Krishna

Hare Krishna Prabhuji

I never knew we were allowed to touch the Guru bead

Hare Krishna Prabhuji,

It is not necessary to chant Panca Tattva Mantra after each round, you just have to reverse the direction of your chanting. Please go through this site. It has all the details related to chanting.

Hare Krishna Nikhil Prabhu,

u mentioned "it is not necessary to chant panca tattva Mantra after each round" u posted this website http://harekrishnajapa.com/how-to-chant-on-beads/ but in that website the following details mentioned" Before we start to chant the Hare Krishna Mantra 108 times on the beads we should chant the Pancha Tattva mantra once before each round"

better to get clarified with some maharajas

Hare Krishna Prabhuji,

The Panchatattva mantra is to be chanted every time before we start a new round as it has divine powers to nullify the offenses which may have been knowingly or unknowingly committed by us while chanting the maha-mantra.

Regarding chanting of the Panca-tattva mantra, in the Caitanya Caritamrita, Srila Prabhupada indicates a general recommendation or instruction that before chanting the Hare Krishna maha-mantra one must chant the Panca-tattva's names and offer respects to them. There are ten offenses to be avoided in chanting the Holy Names, but Lord Caitanya and His associates the Panca-tattva, being the most magnanimous, do not consider any offenses. Thus chanting their names will enable one to derive the full benefit of chanting the maha-mantra. (See Caitanya-caritamrta, Adi Lila 7.4 & 8.4)

However this is just an advisory. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu confirms this in His Siksastakam prayers (Verse 2) that :

namnam akari bahudha nija-sarva-saktis
tatrarpita niyamitah smarane na kaalah

"O my Lord, Your holy name alone can render all benediction to living beings, and thus You have hundreds and millions of names, like Krishna and Govinda. In these transcendental names You have invested all Your transcendental energies. There are not even hard and fast rules for chanting these names."

You seem to be reading into this something that is not there.  Where in CC Adi Lila 7.4 & 8.4 does it say to chant Panca-tattva before EVERY round?  The following I quote for some food for thought on this matter.

"Question:
Is it recommended that one should chant the Pancha Tattva mantra in between every round of japa?

Our Answer:

In short, no.

Srila Prabhupada did recommend that we chant the Pancha Tattva mantra:

sri krishna chaitanya
prabhu nityananda
sri advaita, gadadhara
srivasadi-gaura-bhakta-vrinda

. . .before we chant the Hare Krishna mantra, but he didn't say that the Pancha Tattva mantra must be chanted in between each round of japa. He didn't follow or institutionalize this practice. Many devotees do, however, and there's certainly no harm. But it's not a requirement.

Often we see practices in ISKCON that have become institutionalized without any basis in guru or shastra. It's important to remember that our system is parampara, from master to disciple, and practices that spring up out of popular sentiment or mental concoction—however widespread—are not meant to be perpetuated just because they're popular." (From Krishna.com)

If you like adding something to Srila Prabhupada's teachings - as if you know better - go right ahead.  Personally I'd rather not.  Hare Krishna.

"Who is that rascal sannyasi who has recommended to chant Pancha Tattva mantra on the japa beads? First, send me his name." (Letter of Shrila Prabhupada to: Govardhan 4, Juhu, Bombay-54, 18 November, 1973)

This is correct. We have to chant the Pancha Tattva mantra before each round.
