    Hare Krsna prabhuji,

I have seen a few cases like this - before someone comes into ISKCON, they are already having guru. After getting the teachings of ISKCON, they are normally confused and in some cases, guilty that they want to take diksha from ISKCON gurus. What I have seen such people do is:

    1) Examine whether the earlier guru is in parampara - which sampradaya.

    2) Has the earlier guru given only diksha, or he has preached some philosophy also?

    3) Are you still in touch with the guru, or now no news?

Typically the answers to the above questions will tell you what you need to do. If after answering these questions, you arrive at the decision to take diksha from ISKCON, then you need to take shelter and then take initiation. If you are in touch with earlier guru, then you should inform him, in fact have a clear chat with him, before you start the initiation process in ISKCON.

Kamlesh Prabhuji is right - ISKCON does not have copyright over Krsna. It is not mentioned anywhere that unless one is initiated through ISKCON gurus, one is not going to get KRsna. WHat is important is to imbibe the teachings and make Krsna Consciousness a way of life. Chant 16 rounds, follow 4 regulative principles, read Srila Prabhupada books daily, try to imbibe his teachings. ....that is enough to go back to Godhead.

A Guru should not be rejected unless they fall down (turn bad), regardless of their group. We can have only one Dishka Guru (Take initiation from)  but millions of Sikha Gurus (Take knowledge from).

It is false to think that only Gurus from one group are bona fide and all others are false. This is not supported by Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna NEVER says only devotees from group x come to Me.

"He who meditates on the Supreme Personality of Godhead, his mind constantly engaged in remembering Me, undeviated from the path, he, O Pārtha [Arjuna], is sure to reach Me." (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 8.8)

There are genuine Gurus in all Vaishnava groups and even non-Vaishnava groups. Purity is not measured by external looks, but by our actions.

"A person is said to be still further advanced when he regards all—the honest well-wisher, friends and enemies, the envious, the pious, the sinner and those who are indifferent and impartial—with an equal mind." (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 6.9)

All souls are equal, all devotees are also equal in the Eyes of Lord Krishna. Each person will perform duties according to his/her abilities and development.

"I envy no one, nor am I partial to anyone. I am equal to all. But whoever renders service unto Me in devotion is a friend, is in Me, and I am also a friend to him." (Lord Krishna, Bhagavad-Gita 9.29)
