Namaste,

I am keeping water-only Ekadashi fast. A friend of mine who is a Srivaishnava told me that fasting is not at all advisable for married women. And that shastras speak against such full-fasting for women.

I love to keep my Ekadashi fast and continue it for the rest of my life. I know of its power.

What should I tell my friend? Is there Gaudiya literature or acharyas who recommend full fasting on Ekadashi for married women?

Many thanks.

    Hare Krsna mataji,

    PAMHO.

There is no restriction to fast for matajis on ekadasi. Some cultures they say that a sumangali / suhagan does not fast nirjal (without even water) on any day.. That is not applicable to us, because we are fasting on ekadasi for the pleasure of Their lordships, not for getting multiple benefits, as mentioned in each ekadasi mahatmyam.

PLease continue to fast on ekadasi, keeping the level of fast as per your tolerance level.

    Haribol,
