actually I said that because I had heard i a hari katha that we should start fasting when the tithi starts and end it when the tithi ends (parana time) no more no less because ekadashi tithi comes when krishna wants us to fast and it ends when krishna wants us to break our fast and being his servants we do what he wants

    Hare Krsna,

    PAMHO.

For ekadasi, we follow the Vaishnav calendar released by ISKCON every year, to find out the date on which to observe ekadasi. Fasting is from sunrise to sunrise. Most people fast from before sunrise itself, meaning if they wake up before dawn, they dont eat at that time. WHatever dinner prasadam taken, then next day fasting.

Vaishnav calendar will give parana timing for next day, dwadasi. One has to break fast in that time.

It is as simple as that. No complication of seeing when the tithi actually came.

    Haribol.

  • Hare Krishna Prabhu,

Thithi of ekadashi may fall after sunrise that day isn't counted.  What thithi is day at the start of the day ( Sunrise) time that is only is considered and it is only followed.

Suppose you have Ekadashi thithi starting before day itself around 5:30 pm. That day you are not supposed to do fasting, you may take light meals.

next day suppose the Ekadashi thithi is lasting for 30min or few hours only after sunrise that whole day is considered ekadashi only and appropriate to fast on that day. ( even though the thithi is last for few hours also but at sunrise time if there is ekadashi then whole day is appropriate for fasting and it is only considered ekadashi fasting). next day as per parana time you have to break the fast.

We are supposed to follow the sunrise not sunset or moonrise. Okay?

    I hope it is clear.

    Hare Krishna.

yes prabhu ji. in fact, sometimes the tithi comes at the sunset of the day before ekadasi, so we should try to fast from that time. the Parana time next day is when the tithi ends so we can end the fast at that time
