Srila Prabhupada instructed temple presidents and other devotees through letters not to take any grains even upon breaking the fast after midnight. He said the temples can have a nice feast for the guests only to attract people to come to the festival, but the devotees should fast to the very best of their ability and deffinately do not take grains.

Of course if one is not able to do their service due to too much weakness, then they can take some juice or fruit or milk products, but not grains.

But the Temples have becom slackened to tell this instruction and many devotees break their fast with The Grain Prasad and cake offered to Krishna.

We are supposed to take the grain prasad after noon the next day. As we are to fast unitl noon 12:00 day- for Srila Prabhupadas appearance and have our big feast then.

Of course new devotees if this fasting is all to much for you then just chant and take Krishna Prasad , do not become discouraged. After time you will naturally want to fast and it will not be very difficult. But if one has health problems then fast as best as you can up to your capasity and you may take fruit juice.or if you absolutely need to eat something then take fruits or milk products, like Yogurt.
