Please chant on neem beads initially, instead of Tulsi beads. If you have already ordered, then let it be.
Of course, you can improvise and chant. What is important is that we are chanting. If you dont get beads (I dont know the difference between rosary and japamala. I would think they are the same with different name), then chant on fingers, on excel, on counter ...whichever way, chant. That is pleasing to Krsna.

What is the need for improvising? What is the difficulty in picking up tulsi bead to chant?
Prabhupad always says, just follow the process that has come from generations. There is no need to change anything now.
Moreover, tulsi is very dear to Lord Sri Krsna. We use the tulsi beads to connect with the Lord, thereby engaging as many senses as possible in the service of the Lord.

To get the tulsi beads I will have to order from the Internet, so while they do not arrive I may continue to improvise!
When you said improvise, i thought you want to chant the mantra in a different way than what is already prescribed. :)
Ofcourse, if you have no access to tulsi beads now, you can use other methods for chanting mataji until you get one.
