Hare Krishna!
As, Janmasthami is approaching I have a question related to performing abhishekam to the Lord! Friends.. Is there any special mantra one must recite while performing the abhishekam to the Lord? or is chanting the maha mantra enough? Please, let me know.

Usually, when Pujari is bathing Deities there are special mudras, and mantras to each action. Also items.
First Pujari cleanses himself...makes ready all items in Altar room...removes the clothes of Deities and covers Them with Their gamcha.
Cleanses Their Bodies with soft cotton, then applies oil or ghee, but before this one can offer incenses, flowers...then draws Goloka Vrindavan in the pot where Deities will stand with Gopi chandan and with the outer side of the middle finger, puts Tulasi leaves....then again offers flower petals then offers different types of liquids for bathing ...
These all can be found in Narada Pnacharatra Pradipa in the section of Deity worship.
But if one does not know these things then simple Hare Krishna is enough.
